Hi, I was just wondering who has the oldest grey on here? I know they can live into their 50s so wondered if anyone had one that old? Gandalf is only about 2 (supposed to be 18 months but i'll say hes two as the ring is 08) What are everyone elses ages, or do you know anyone with an old bird? There is a macaw in my family that must be going into its 70s. (s)hes been passed from one faimly member to another poor thing. Apparently im next on the list when his current owner dies

cool, So do they actually reach their 50s In alot of the sanctuarys i've been to they are always young birds (under 10) My tiels are in their early 20s so they really are getting on now but i assume 20 is still young for a grey

Yes twenty is young for a grey, you have to think about how our knowledge has progressed though, so many greys who are in their 40's 50's etc...their diet was generally poor, i dont mean because of lack of care, its because of lack of knowledge..its a very interesting subject this If you think about how our society has progressed, fox hunting banned, care of animals laws inforced, much more information is available, pellets have been introduced, laws on how we keep birds have been introduced, we have avian vets, we have specialists, we have studies to go by..this sort of thing was just not available til relatively recently...even in in the 70's and 80's things were very different, i recently read a book written in the 70's by Rosemary low, it was a laugh to say the least "use asbestos sheeting for the avairy roof", can you imagine Anyway, i think the lack of knowledge, studies, good diet, this is why we see very few old greys...thats one of our aims on this forum, we always concentrate on diet, its a very important part of a greys well being, well, the most important you could say...I would expect to see greys living much longer and happier lives, we learn all the time, adn we need to put it into practice..then we will be seeing healthy older greys in the next generations Well Done with your tiels...piccies please

Squid do you know if a grey's behaviour changes with age at all? What I mean is,if you have a young, cheeky, mischievous kind of bird, would they always be like that or do they change when they get older?

Matt, I am sure they do change, they are much more layed back, Digby was layed back, and so is Eric..there is a big difference..they are not so hyper, and they tend to have a nap every now and again...and keep to themselves, sorta watch the world go by, enjoying it..

They do Matt, they are very like humans in that respect, they are just fortunate, because their tits dont hit the floor, they dont develop beer bellies, or wrinkles, , no varicose veins or piles, i wanna be a parrot
