Calcium can not be processed without vitD
So no matter how you give it or how much it won't count without sunshine
Many birds found with a low calcium is actually lack of VitD

And if you are feeding pellets Steve you can't supplement. Scarlett have avian lamps for about 40 I think, I would say it's a must.

also the one thing putting my partner off is the smell and the fact u cant use ir freshners or candles so how do you keep your flat smelling nice apart from cleaning the grey out every day can you not take the grey in another room on a perch and use air freshner the. come back when its settled down what do you guys do ??

I don't think you need to worry about the bird being smelly they hardly have any smell at all if you keep the cage clean and change the paper daily it'll be fine.
I use cinnamon and spices boiled up to keep doggie smells at bay x

I'd want beak n feather test , and if DNA can be done then I'd let him do it
Curiosity will one day get the better of you and then you'll not want to do it yourself incase you hurt ur birdie (though Iv done all mine but 2) x x

Have you chose a cage yet Steve ?
Width is more important than height , they need room to move and spread their wings and often Dnt use the bottom
Though babies to tend to play down there with foot toys but my older ones don't unless im cleaning out their cage so they bein nosey x

ive been looking at lots of cages definatly want one with an open top or with a play gym on and the ones where the feeding bowls swing to the outside that way do have to goin the cage to disturb the grey obviously gonna get toys espcially the foriging toys to keep occupied when im not there was thinkin aswell i go to my mums quite abit and friends so gettinf a carrier but also correct me if this is a bad idea but was thinking of getting a dog crate to convert with perches and toys in cause not gonna have a cage at mums or friends

Depending on bar spacin on a dog crate it's a great idea :)
Play top cage would be a good idea and if your stuck for space you can add a mini Java stand to the top instead of the single perch
And they do like to play on the cage top and bein a flat surface it's a much better play space :) x

so a flat top cage would be best and also what size java if you could reccomend one would be good and yes limited to to space was gonna hang a spiral rope from the ceiling aswell whats your opinion on wings clipped or not

This looks a good one
You could still hang a rope above it too or even near to the window to give your baby something to land on when flying x
