cocos plucking her flight feathers
« on: April 07, 2012, 03:58:00 PM »

Thought I would join the pluckers club as Coco is one  :cry2: she  started on her chest then moved to her back and now has been pulling her wing and flight feathers out :( . her back is starting to get better. Really wondering how long will it take for her flight feathers to grow back in?

I'm sorry to hear Coco is plucking, it's heartbreaking when you have a plucker  :cry2:

Did she have bloods taken to see if it's not medical?
Although we do need to remember some birds pluck and we never find out the true reasons for it.  :cheekkiss:

She has'nt had bloods done as the vet was wanting to other tests to , but I cannot afford them at the minute :(  as it was gonna be about 400 ish.
one her front it just the grey feathers she is plucking and not the white fluffy feathers(not sure what u call them) .

Gordy was it an avian specific vet you went to?
As that is a lot of money for bloods to be done, mine have had bloods done and it never cost that much and mine will be back at the end of this month for their check ups which will include bloods and I know it will not cost that much and I have three Greys.

My vet is in Cumbernauld but they also have a practice in Falkirk which I think is nearer you,  it's called Lawrie veterinary group, here's a link to the one near you http://www.any-uk-vet.co.uk/maguire-griffiths-st/index.htm

thats great thanks, I have heard of them, just looked up and yes they are closer, by a couple of miles lol. I have just looked at the estimate i got and the total was 335 and there was about 4 different things on it she wanted to do, I cant find the price on the bloods as it not listed blood test or anything must be under another name lol

Try my Avian vets then as they are great and I know for a fact that I've never paid that much just for bloods and like I said I have three birdies

Why is it 400 for blood tests?!!  I took mine for blood test and check for feather disease and it was only 60
