Plucking around neck
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:54:14 AM »

Morning all,

My grey has been plicking round his neck, he has been for a month or so I was told, there is like baby fluffy feathers coming back but wondering what I can do to keep them not for him to pluck.

He is 13 years old Congo, very tame, toys inside and out of his cage, loves shreading things to bits until nothing there!

He is out more or less all day just goes back in at night and if my partner pops to town or something

Looking forward to some advice

Cheers

Has he ever done this before? Has there been any changes in you, your home, life, even the smallest thing that may have stressed him? It could also be hormonal plucking.

Don't encourage any mating behaviour as it will lead to frustration for the bird. So walk away when he starts to regurgitate.

It sounds like it started when he was left alone, have you got lots of toys for him. Try to talk to him lots, give him lots of out of cage time, and lots of attention (obviously not if he's frisky :) )

Hopefully now his situation has changed he may forget the plucking,  it unfortunately can become a habit for them, so don't react when he does it,  just try and put his attention on something else.

Good luck & keep us updated

Hello ye he lots of toys in and out of his cage, he is out most of the time, he's having lost of attention and Ye when he does regurgitate or start to we do walk away,

Hopefully he will stop,

Food wise he had a pellet diet of Harrison's, has some AS30 seed that has no peanut of sunflower seeds, fresh fruit and veg every day also.

Well you're doing the right things with him, let's hope it passes, they are so complex! But so much fun :)
