bless him, he's a cutie! He's doing so well already, hopefully with your love and care he'll not need to pluck now, unless he starts to miss his chips :)

Sam looks the way Bill did when I first got him.If Bill feels stressed out or tired he will pluck so I have to be careful. He is known to pull the feathers on his back, chest, under his wings and his legs but its been awhile since he plucked anywhere.I remember the time when his feathers were growing back on his legs as he looked like he was wearing some frilly ankle socks. :haha:

For the last couple of days I haven't seen any plucking but found one tiny feather. Angel, its horrible isn't it?

Good afternoon everyone. Just like to mention it is distressing to see them pluck especially when all the plucked areas have grown back and then they start again. When I spray/mist Bill l try and make sure the water gets to his skin not just his feathers so it gives him some relief from itching as the feathers are coming through. Obviously this is my personal opinion. Sam sounds like he's found his mate.X :yahoo:

I've misted him today...hated it but enjoyed the nut afterwards. He has been constantly preening today (between singing and clicking). How much time do Grey's tend to spend on grooming?

Yep NG its horrible, I hate it most when I can hear him doing it  :cry2:  Went out for the afternoon yesterday, despite me filling up his foraging stuff I came home to a bald patch on his chest, that'll teach me to go out  :cry2:  No matter how hard I try not to let it, it still upsets me.

Good evening all! After converting Bill on to Harrison's pellets his feathers/skin improved dramatically. I am taking him to the vets sometime this month so I will know whether all these problems are diet related. And African Greys do preen alot. I'm hoping that an avian light will help so I will be buying one tomorrow. I will try anything to try and stop this distressing habit for good.xx

I have the light for Floyd, Im sure its made a difference in his mood as he is in quite a dark corner, but not the plucking  :cry2:  Im positive he's a happy bird though
