Second molt or plucking???
« on: March 19, 2017, 11:16:53 AM »

Hello everybody!!I am new to this forum and I have a question I am sure you've heard before.I am owner of Lemonia. A 20 month old beautiful Cag.At the age of 12 months she had her first molt.It lasted about 2 months. She was looking very scruffy and I was worrying but she got over it and her feathers were perfect again. Now 3 months ago at the age of 18 months she started having the exact same look.I read that this is the time for her second molt. But I think this is more severe and it lasts more.Could it be something else such as plucking or it lasts more than 2 months. Her feathers are not chewed up by the way and she has no empty skin patches.

Οκ this is a today photo .By the way I live on an island so there is no avian vet.Only common vets who aren't specialized in birds.😑

Pff😏I thought she was molting because she was like this before and was fine weeks after. Her diet:pellets, cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, apples, chicken. Rarely veggies. I admit she has no avian lamp. 🤔

Vegetables are more important than fruit
Pellets are good :)
Sunflower seeds are good for a training treat too
I choose not to feed animal proteins , it's no good for a hormonal bird so I didn't get into a routine of feeding it at all

Ok thanks about all the information.I am also spraying her with water with aloe Vera .I am suspecting that she started doing this because the first months I used to take her with me to work. But now I take her only 2 to 3 times a week. She isn't alone at home but maybe because I'm her favourite person she is very attached to me and this happened. :cry2:

Make sure you give a good soak once a week with plain water
As the aloe Vera will build up on her feathers :)
I hve a soft spot for the pluckers and I love how she has left herself a mohair jumper
