« on: November 07, 2015, 10:09:36 AM »

hi guys- dont know exactly whats happening but over the last month or so I see quite more than usual feathers down at Souvis cage.. I havent noticed Souvi plucking or change of behaviour.. she's as normal as she has even been and looking at her cant notice any bold areas.. i just dont know where all those lost little feathers come from?

grey feathers or down?

think Georgie is semi moulting causing seeing more also.

as long as no noticeable bold spots it may just be a moult

couldnt say if pulled or not, def not chewed off.

will say they seem to be from different areas of body judging by size and style.

now when a bird moults they kinda like that in pairs so from breast area one from right side one from left, now if was the start of plucking would expect her to start in one area, and then start moving around that area till its noticeable, so taking breast as example quite big darker grey feathers, all around the same size. and would start to see bare skin quite quickly

with Georgie when she started, she started on legs, then went up to under her wing, then her back, and eventually started on her breast... she left her wings and tail alone, and all this only happened after she got a lil broody, and laid a phantom egg....

shes pretty much fully feathered now, only wont leave feathers around her vent alone, although vet said nothing to worry about (originally thought preen gland might be blocked, but vet said it was fine and working as it should)

Thank you Jon. What you say makes sense. I will wait and see - thank you for the advice.

They're all moulted feathers no need to worry, you can tell the moulted one's they still have the white ends in tact x
