Advice needed for a novice!!!
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:50:10 PM »

I've had my 16 year old CAG Bruno for 6 days, she has a lovely temperament and really enjoys a fuss. I recently started target training with her and she loves it, however, she is very reluctant to move off her perch and touch the stick somewhere else in her cage. I really want to be able to teach her the step up so I can get her in and out of her cage safely. Has anyone got any tips or is it just a case of patience.

Patience is key
6 days is such a short time
Does she come out on her own accord?

It's early days yet and greys take a lot of time to built trust especially to be handled if they are timid...I would sit by her cage and talk softly to her with some treats ready for her...singing softly  is also a good way of calming them and encouraging them over to you :) x

Thanks everyone! I open her cage everyday but she's only come out twice. I can put my hand in and she will openly come to me for a fuss, she loves having her head tickled and under her chin, she will also let me stroke right down her back. Everytime I try and put my hand below her breast for a step up she lowers her head for another tickle lol
