Hey.
Took Meeka out of her cage yesterday to give her a chance to spread her wings a little !!

She spent alot of time on my shoulder, but when she did attempt to fly she kinda just fell in style ..

is she too young ti fly yet ? She is app 18 weeks old ? She has not been clipped as both myself and the shop I got her frim are against clipping !!
I have notices a few fluffy chick feathers still in her wings that are slowly being fledged which is why I am wondering if it vis an age thing ?

They are clumsy as hell learning 18 weeks is still a baby. Sounds a bit late but suspect environment as my 2 were breeder bred and allowed to fly can't imagine too many opportunities in a shop.

Sounds like a breeder gave to the shop too young. Normally finished at weaning 12 weeks I think, need John to confirm so if they've been shopped caged since then not surprised at the backwards development. Good couple of weeks between weaning and learning to fly and you've only got 6 weeks. Not being in a home environment I'd suspect is why you're seeing the learning curve,

She is very clumsy in her cage too !! From what I have read on posts here maybe down to the lack of development ? The shop took her out of her cage on a regular basis.. but as ive seen here prefers just to sit on your shoulder than to flying which is sad :(

I am hoping with a little time and patience we should get her confident enough to get her in the air and developing those all important muscles !! If it is possible at all !!

I dont have a harness

Hi when I got Elliott home I had to put old towel in bottom of his cage and cover in news paper because bed would fall of his perch.   That was to be on safe side.   They are really clumsy.  :)):))

I have put a cushion ( wrapped in towel ) at the bottom of her cage as she has plummeted a few times now :(

Good news tho !! We got her airborne last night XD I was ecstatic yay.. big smiles... she is still shedding a lot of baby feathers... so maybe just a late starter ?

Do you have pics of her, it would give us an idea of her age, not sure if she should still have fluufy feathers at 18 weeks :)

Is it the downy feathers? They always have those under their main feathers. You'll see loads of downy feathers when they are preening

Sometimes when Yvie has been preening the downy feathers stick out from the main ones and she looks raggy, maybe it's that? I'm sure it's fine but see if you can get pics uploaded :)
