Should I be addressing or not?
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:30:24 PM »

Hey! Freddie my cag has been with us 2 weeks now he's settled in really well! Steps up and down on to a perch out of his cage , on top and back in his cage. I do have one question though. When I place Freddie down he wants to fly to me within a minute or less unless bribed lol!  ( I've used this to my advantage to start to have him come to me on call ) but should I allow him to fly to me as and when he feels like. If not then how do I stop it or is it something he will grow out of when he's more certain of everything I understand everything's still quite new to him as well as me lol

you could always teach him to stay a little longer each time, use recall followed by a treat , each time leavin longer between and usin the word stay
if he flies to you befor you call him dont treat . tel him no (but not nastily) and return him to where he was
Pat put a vid with it in with her and charlie , go take a look in training

Nice one thank you Mandy for your help I'll give that one a try :-) its not that I mind him being in me but I don't want him to get into bad habits if that's what it is, and cause my self problems later on! I want to try and do things as best as I can from the off :-) he has done so well so far already for 13.5 weeks I expected him to take longer to bond with me :-)

the many time i've taken jasper back to his play stand and saying 'wait there'. i turn my back and often he flies straight back to me

freddie will get it eventually, but it is funny sometimes. not when you're bursting for the toilet though

will he step onto your hand instead of a perch? seeing as he's only a baby

Yeh he will step on to my hand and he will step down every time now too on to a perch in or out of his cage and on to his cage! He's taken to having a stand on my knee when I'm sat watching tv some nights now too!
He still wants to constantly be on me though. I have been trying to leave him on his java perch for slightly longer periods he seems to be getting it slowly but surely :-)  his recalls really good for being so young I guess this is one advantage of him wanting to be with me all the time lol ( works in my favour on that one lol)

Lol I can't wait till Freddie like that I've been trying to play some games  with him that don't directly involve me .... Like wrapping a treat in news paper this was the first time tonight he played out the cage with out direct contact from me for more than a few minutes lol bless him he's getting there :-)

that's great that he's learning to play on his own,it is good for them to spend some time on their own
