Stepping on
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:12:01 PM »

Well Dexter has been with us a while now and stepping on went out of the window sadly. So... After. A bit of encouragement from Mandi I've decided to take it all back to basics and spend some one on one time with Dexie just giving  the step on command and today after only a couple of days maybe a week of trying look what has happened... I'm so pleased with him. Hopefully he will see that stepping on gets you rewards and eventually he will be confident enough to step on so I can get him into the travel cage an out in the aviary in the summer months.
The photos my be a bit rubbish but I had to be quick to snap him whilst he was still with me :))

That's great Jo
Sometimes we just take things they do for granted and forget to praise them for it
I still every time I get any of mine stepping up wether it be on my hand or buddy perch praise them with just a "good girl/boy" and sometimes even a "yeay"

Hi Karen, yes we had Charlies feathers imped. His new feathers lasted two days.  :cry2:He pulled them all out and he's just started to grow flights now. :thumbsup:But because there's no support for new feathers the blood feathers sometimes snap. :cry2:
So here we are two years later and poor Carlie still isn't flying bless him.  :cry2:He's never been the same since he had a bad clip as a baby :baseballbat: he's aggressive, doesn't trust anyone and has a nasty bite on him and he uses that to let you know he's had enough of you and boy it hurts!  :nono:
There are times when he comes out of his cage and he jumps to the floor then he will let me pick him up but other than that I can only chat to him as he can't stand me just now, he's all Sandy  :cry2:
I feel so sorry for him and very guilty even now as I often wonder if he would be a different bird had he not had that clip and I'm sure he would be very different. :cheekkiss:
Anyway we are prob better off not going down the route of a clip discussion because everyone has their reasons and opinions, it's just for us it's a no no. :nono:

But Charlie will know that he is loved ,has nice toys and good food, does he try to fly or does he know he can't so doesn't try . When Lola couldn't fly she would try a couple of times then gave in. But she seemed to know when she was able to do it . Xx

He tries to fly Karen but lands like a brick. :cheekkiss: He likes to have a flap on his cage when he comes out bless him.it's such sorry sight. :cry2:
But... We r trying to move forward and think positive now and his flight feathers are coming in but they're growing oddly so right now he has a couple f flights coming in but then his other side he almost has a full set so we will see what happens Karen.
It upsets me when I think of it all so I try to look forward now in a positive way and I will try hard to encourage him to keep trying to fly and one day, I'm sure he will.  :crossed
