African Grey Parrot Centre ™ Newsletter 002 Edition

We're please to say that last weeks newsletter (the very first addition) was a resounding success was great to see a a lot of old faces back so if you haven't been on in a while pop your head round the door in the forum and say hi, but for the time being we're happy to bring you another addition of what we hope to be a weekly thing, time permitting.

So last weeks newsletter was thrown together by myself as kind of a pilate to guage how it would be received, when I say thrown together what I actually mean is I spent most of the night Saturday untill 6am in the morning on Sunday "throwing together" my ideas on paper (well computer).

Paula was not happy when I crept into bed in the early hours but you know how it is when you get into something, it's incredibly hard to put it down when more and more ideas come into your head (yes even in the early hours of the morning), if I'm honest I could have just kept going but even I know when enough is enough

What we thought we'd do for this week's newsletter, partially to save my marriage and make sure I get my beauty sleep but also to ensure other members get their say, was to get input from members of the forum to put into the newsletter, so that's what we've done.

We were very pleased with the response, amazing content and ideas that a lot of members came up with, after all we understand that it's the community that people come to the forum to be part of not just to talk to us.

We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter as much as we enjoyed putting it together

Donate To The Rescue Fund

Hi everybody and welcome to the Fund Raising section of the Newsletter.

I would just like to thank everybody that helped raise funds before Christmas by buying the things that were on sale. Keyrings are still on sale at £2 each, so if you would like one, just let me know. You can use your own photo or quotation for one side of the keyring. Also, avatars are still available at 50p each. Just click on the donate button above (allow images if you can't see it), let me know that you have paid and I'll email the avatar or post you a keyring.

Every little helps and I know that you are all aware how much it costs just to house and feed one Grey, well, imagine how much it costs to actually take in a rescue, make sure it's healthy, feed, house and pay the vet bills before until it is found a forever home. So, please don't think that by just paying 50p for an avatar, it won't help much, because if everybody donated 50p.....that would soon add up to a bag of food.

I am hoping to be able to get some special Valentine avatars done by next week, so watch out for the announcement in the forum.

Irina's Recipe Of The Week

Delicious Vegetable Wrap Recipe For Your Grey (with images)

Ingredients

1/4 of a small wholemeal tortilla wrap
1 cherry tomatoe
one slice of red pepper
1 teaspoon of corn (fresh or frozen)
parsley or coriander to taste
a tiny pinch of dry paptrika or caynne pepper
a drop of olive oil

Preparation

Prepare the pepper and the tomatoe by chopping them into small pieces. Chop the herbs. Drop a tiny bit of oil on a frying pan, put the tomatoes, peppers, corn and herbs on the pan, put the spices on top and fry on a medium heat for about a minute.

Then put the mix on the tortilla and wrap up tightly. To wrap up tightly put the veggie mix closer to one edge of the wrap, fold the sides in and then start wrapping from the end with the filling.

If your parrot likes unflavoured yogurt you can drop a bit of that on the veggie mix before wrapping up.

Bob's Weekly Round-Up

Well its been an interesting week on the AGPC forum, at the start of the week the first newsletter went out and seems to have been positively recieved by all (apart from Brucy who has to be different :-) ). I have been very busy giving in depth dietry and environmental advice while Irina has been posting her usual ramblings and smut (or is that the wrong way round?)

Geoff has invented a new excercise routine it's called the library dash, and Pip is making an all out effort to break the photo posting record, although we are expecting Mandi to come out fighting next week.

Jojo still wants to dance and the Gay Greys up in Scotland are watching with interest whilst putting the finishing touches to their routine.

Nice to see a couple of old members (no not you Pat) back and posting again, welcome back Oscar and Diane and keep them coming.

Irene tells me Dave has had a very traumatic week, he went into a Pound shop and actually spent over a pound, hope you get over the shock soon Dave.

On a side note me and Traff are going into the ear piercing business, he made a great job of mine this week, and is prepared to do it for a palm nut although for some members he will gladly do it free of charge ( you are well in credit Liz, contact us to make an appointment)
