I said I would keep you up to date with how Eric is getting on so here is the update you have all been waiting for… Sorry it has taken so long what with all the parrots and children I look after time gets a little short and also we are getting married in just under 2 weeks now so I am busy with that also!
Eric seems to have settled in really well, he was very quiet for the first few days but then soon started to show us what he could do! He is a very clever boy and can talk for England, the thing he says the most is ”do you want a bath mate!”, He loves his baths and he has a couple a day with luke warm water and a splash of Cyder Vinergar which is good for his feathers it will help improve his feather condition and also soothe the discomfort and prickle of bare skin patches and newly emerging feathers and hopefully stop him plucking them out. Also I add a drop in into the drinking water once a day it’s perfectly safe to drink and it will help clean out any toxins from inside him too.
He also loves his Palm nut oil on brown bread toast Yummy!
He is such a funny parrot, and makes me laugh each and everyday with the things he says and also his dances and phone conversations he has with himself.
He has plucked himself a bit more now which is to be expected with the move and change of house but he seems to be happy and has time out on a daily basis and I am sure he will settle down and hopefully grow back his feathers back, the big change must be strange for him going to live with a new family in a new house, it has not stopped his eating, he loves his food and fruit and veg and also his pulses which is good.

I am from SA. Well I have an African Grey, looking worse than Eric. He started plucking about 2 years ago. We had a housekeeper, not anymore, which I am certain did something to Leary. I have tried everything: hormone injections, visit to the vet, anti-depressants (vet’s diagnosis and meds), rooibos tea (in water and spray), mirror, changed his food, to food without preservatives, new stainless steel cage, spray twice daily, new toys, more attention, aloe vera juice, sugar in his water, apple cider, out in the sun 4 times a week, less sunflower seeds, you name it I have tried it. The vet’s diagnosis is that he is naughty, and I have to break the habit, otherwise he must put a collar around his neck, and apparently they hate it, and die within 5 days. I am desperate. It breaks me to seem him like that, sometimes it irritates me. He makes baby sounds when he starts plucking, as if he enjoys it. Could anybody please help!

hi i got a african grey hes just started plucking his feathers does anybody know why he doing this as he is not keped in his cage so hes not bored some says it might be looking for a mate dont know if this would cause it anybody know would be pleased to hear from u thaxs

hi hes the same as mine but my parrot just not ass bad as eric vet in the vet school says this might be because they looking for a mate but they are many reasons for them doing it taking my parrot to vet thursday my parrot name is gizmo so let u know what vet says
to gizmo to vet today hes at that age hes coming into sex maturety so this is one cause of the plucking as with eric he eats fruit my does not so i got try get him to eat fruit to get vitims in him
Hi, I am in the exact same situation. I have adopted my friends african grey “COCO” at first it was a huge challenge changing his diet, getting him used to the surroundings and us.He has adapted really well only problem is we cannot stop him from plucking. We a young 25 year old married couple and we adore him to bits and just want him to be happy and healthy.
