A forlorn African grey parrot has been reunited with his puppy pal who vanished two weeks ago.
Barney, an African grey parrot was left pining for his chum Bluey who disappeared on Christmas Day.
The adventurous pup squeezed under a locked gate at the front of his home at Hanman Road, Tredworth.
Animal-mad Ken Kersey and partner Margaret Sullivan, appealed to readers of The Citizen on Saturday in the hope of tracing their Wheaton Cairn terrier.
The couple, who also own two cockatiels, eight cats and two other dogs, feared Bluey had been dog-napped.
But on Sunday Bluey turned up safe and well.
Margaret, 65, said: “A lady from The Lannett in Gloucester phoned me up saying she had seen a dog matching Bluey’s description.
“We went to the Lannett and found him. He was with a man who claimed he was his friend’s dog.
“We are just overjoyed to have Bluey back – our family is complete again.”
Margaret brought the 10-month-old Bluey from Newent a week before Christmas.
But he vanished just before 9am on Christmas Day.
Margaret said: “His disappearance spoilt Christmas but having him back is a great start to the New Year.
“None of us felt like celebrating Christmas but we certainly do now.
“He has settled in well although he was quite quiet on Sunday. All of our pets are very pleased to have their chum back.”
It is also good news for Margaret’s seven grandchildren: Ian, 23, Stuart, 20, Fay, 18, Lemar, 20, Tyler, eight, Alita, six and Saffron, four.
“They are delighted”, said Margaret. “We are all very pleased indeed.
“I would like to thank everybody who phoned up and provided information to try to help us find Bluey.”
