Did you know your African Grey Parrot LOVES a good bath …. well most of them do (He says tentatively) you’re bird will tell you very loud and clear if this isn’t the case, a good way of knowing if they want a bath is when you find it in the middle of the water bowl trying to do so, this is a good reason why you should change the water on a daily basis, your grey may be bathing in it and you may not know, would you drink the water you bathed in …. ewww!!
Linen Spray Bottle
Well we personally prefer to spray our Greys with a spray bottle, any old bottle will do as long as it can spray and is much better if you have some sort of control of how the spray comes out, if you have it set to water cannon mode your bird may not enjoy that, the best thing to do is to have the spray set to mist.
When you spray I would say let the bird know what your going to do by just giving it one gentle squirt, it may squawk or wriggle a little …. once you’ve done that give it a couple of squirts, as the bird becomes more comfortable with it you can start spraying more and more, you will find the bird starts to open it’s wings and shake it’s head in enjoyment.
If you find the birds hates the bath you should slowly get it used to being sprayed by doing it once in a while then increasing the frequency, they will soon get used to it, apart from keeping your Grey in good condition and clean spraying your Grey will help keep the dustiness down and you won’t be chasing it around with a feather duster all the time … happy spraying!!
