Kato Moves To His New Forever Home.

April 12th, 2012
Kato Moves To His New Forever Home.

On Sunday 8th April 2012 we took Kato to his new forever home, he’s gone to live with Mary and Russell.

His new cage/home was up and ready for him and it was filled with lots of new toys.

Kato Stepped up to both Mary and Russell straight away and seemed very happy to sit with them getting head tickles.

Mary and Russell also have another CAG named Thabo, both Thabo and Kato were happy to sit near each other while they were on Russell’s hands, they both just looked at each other, but they were very relaxed, so I think they will be great friends and company for each other.

We wish both Mary and Russell a happy time with Kato and look forward to them sharing his life with us on here.

Mary will be now continuing Kato’s blog.

Update on our New Grey George

April 11th, 2012
Update on our New Grey George

Well George has been part of our flock for almost a week now.

In that time I have managed to build up more trust with him and his self confidence is building every day. Each morning our three greys are let out for around three to four hours. They can do as they please and George used his time to go into Charlies cage to pay him a visit and eat his breakfast! We found it so funny.

George almost enjoys a shower with all the other birdies now too, the first few days we had growling and screaming now….nothing which is fantastic. We are still trying to build enough trust between us for me to put my whole arm into the cage, I’ve got my hand in but just now that’s far enough for George, that’s fine we will work at his pace. He gives me kisses through the cage, and we have had the “move like jagger” tune too which was so funny.

George has yet to play with his new toys but in the last few days he has at last ventured from his water bowl onto the lovely new perches I put in for him. I’m hoping they will help to reduce the length of his beak and make his nails less sharp. He has a good appetite on him and between him and his brothers they are eating us out of house and home!

He has settled into our home well considering he is such a frightened and nervous little grey. We will continue to work with him and love him as much as our other birdies as he is one of the gang now and we just adore him. Charlie thinks he’s lovely and he will often sit on his cage asking George for a kiss.
We would love to find out at some point if George is a Georgina but at the moment I would like to keep all my fingers so collecting feathers for DNA seems miles away but it doesn’t really matter wether he is a she, so long as our little George is as happy as he can be, as he deserves to have a long and happy life.

Welcome to our family George. :) ) xxx

Penny’s Setback!

Penny's Setback!

After doing so well on her new Animal Zone pellets and growing back quite a few feathers, we have had a major setback with Penny. Her and Charlie my other Grey don’t get on and I can’t let them out together, it stresses Penny out but a couple of weeks ago Penny was out and Charlie undid his catch on his food dish door and got out, before I could get him back in he dive bombed Penny and as she ran to get in her cage, he did it again.

Poor Penny, for the next couple of days she bit off all the lovely feathers that she had grown back. It’s such a shame and I blame myself for not making sure all his food doors were done up extra tight,I just hope that she will calm down again and let her feathers grow back, we have gone right back to basics with her, just giving her Animal Zone plumage enhancer for a few days to boost up the feathers and we’ll take it from there.

Penny continues to love Darryl and hate me, she would strip the skin of any part of me that she can grab, so I try hard to keep out of lunging distance lol. Bless her little heart, I love her to bits, she is quite happy playing with a telephone directory, ripping it up or preening her toys in her cage. I can’t believe it’s 10 months since we had Penny, she came to us as Ben and had been called a he for the first six years of her life, DNA gave us a surprise when it came back that Ben was actually a girl, so Ben became Penny.

She continues to whistle and beep rather than talk, but knows exactly what you are saying to her. she is a crafty little mare hahaha. That just makes her all the more lovely, it’s a battle of wills.

An Update On Coco.

An Update On Coco.

Well how time flies!

Coco has now been part of our flock for 5 months she has finally been moved officially into the birds room and can now interact/watch the other 4 to her hearts is content though it is now a wild guess who it is calling to the other rooms for me as she has stolen Casper`s voice and him hers too!

She resides next to Peach who is our calmest grey and also a plucker whether it coincidence or not but since Coco and Peach have become neighbours Peach`s pluckin has lessened a awful lot.

Coco will stil let her legs grow fully feathered and the next morning strip them bare, i guess she prefers the naturist look, but feathered or not she is adorable, and recently iv been known to even get kisses from her too which a couple months ago i would of never thought possible
she no longer stikes the cage when i approach or even touch it and im now allowed to feed and water without bein struck at she loves her showers in the human bathroom and will even then step up for me to remove her.

Any other time though i have to use the protection of a buddy perch , but at the moment this works fine for the both of us just last week we had some really warm weather and this was the first time Coco had been put outside to enjoy the sunshine along with the rest, i bet my neighbours think i own a zoo with all the chirping and whislting going on, god i love em all so (the greys that is not the neighbours):o)

Anyway ill leave you with a few pics xx

Doodah Becomes George!

April 8th, 2012
Doodah Becomes George!

Monday 2nd April we travelled to pick up a 2 and half yr old grey named Doodah.

Doodah had been part of the same family since he was a baby and had been loved by them all somewhere along the way he had begun to lost the bond with his owners and this was heartbreaking for them to see, he was well cared for and provided for and certainly loved but they felt he lacked in the interaction they so wanted to give, and so they made the heartbreaking decision to rehome him to the AGPC and hoped he could someday learn to love someone else the way he once did them.

When i bought him into our home i decided to give him a complete change inc a new name of George i also gave all new toys and perches but kept the one he saw as his comfort zone, where he seemed to retreat to if anyone he felt unsure of entered his space the only person he really seemed to like was our 7 yr old sonhe seemed to feel rather nervous and certainly uncomfortable around the rest of us so all his day to day care was led by our son, he chatted with him and did al the feeding and watering and even sat by him whilst i did the cleaning.

George had always been on a seed based diet but after the first spoon full i refused to give anymore and instead fed a pellet which George willingly took to in a instant.

I had originally thought George would be a long term foster as the road to learn to accept a adult was going to be a long one until on Wednesday only a couple days after George arrived a friend of mine from AGPC came to visit, again it was her daughter George excepted but them i couldnt believe my eyes when George allowed Jo into his space and also took food from her hands he even began to play on the floor but that was until i again entred the room
it seemed that little George had selected his own new mummy so the very next day i delivered George to his new forever family it seems like it was a match meant to be!

So on that note i will hand his blog over to his new mummy Jo.
