Lady – Still As Cheeky As Ever!!!

February 28th, 2012
Lady - Still As Cheeky As Ever!!!

Lady is still doing brilliantly, she’s been a little put out as we’ve spent time doing some much needed decoration to our house, but has been absolutely fantastic through it all!! I think because she could see us through the parrot room window, she understood that something big was happening.

As soon as the decor was done and the house was back straight, I took her round for a tour. I was a little concerned on how she would react to our new lounge, as it has gone from brown to red, and Lady does not like the colour red!!!
Thankfully the red, although a big change, is not overwhelming, and she was fine with it, and was very excited to be back in the main house again, and soon went straight to work at antagonising her much beloved enemies the dog, cats, and kids :) NORMALITY!!! :)

I’ve noticed ever the last few days, that she’s been chewing her play ring which has been in her cage for quite some time, which I’m very pleased about as it has lots of different materials and textures, and is very funky looking :)

Lady is still plucking, but still has her chest feathers which she has allowed to grow. I couldn’t imagine Lady with cheek and neck feathers, and she is not the only Too that I’ve has seen that plucks her cheeks either, if she lets them grow great, if not, she’s still the same beautiful, funky Lady to me :)

Here are some recent photos I took :)

Lady Update Jan 2012

Lady Update Jan 2012

Lady is still doing well, she still has her chest feathers and is still a quite character!!

She’s becoming more confident in the parrot room, and will now venture into the kitchen to look for me, and she loves to sit on one of the trees in front of the window so she can watch us when we are in the kitchen.

She still hates the kids, and can only join me for evening cuddles after the kids have gone to bed, this is so she cannot attack them. She still likes to attack the other animals though and will antagonise the dog at every opportunity!! What’s worse is that she wins every time, and the poor dog ends up running off to sulk which makes Lady more confident and more determined to get the dog even more….

Lady is such a funny girl, her giggle is the most dirtiest I’ve ever heard, but usually we only hear it after she’s bitten someone or something!! In her own way, she knows she’s the boss except for when my Grey is out because he is the only male and is king of the castle, but I think Lady accepts this, and is happy being boss number 2.

Our house would never be the same without her, and with her antics, she certainly makes our house a more lively place.
I couldn’t imagine my world without Lady, she’s a nutter just like her mama ;)

Little Ruby Roo!

Little Ruby Roo!

Well, another month has past since Ruby joined our family and flock, she’s settled in amazingly!!
She enjoys her toys, and plays with every single one!! I have introduced her to Birdie Bangles which she munches with minutes, she also likes to hold them with her right foot and bang them on the perch or cage…. Very cute to watch :)

Ruby loves music, and will bop and whistle away, she’s a little party animal, and seems to like all the 90s music the most, especially Steps and the Spice Girls!!!!! Must get a video of her getting her groove on!! ;)

She has put on more weight and now weighs 415g, she seems to like cooked veg more than fresh so far, and I am yet to try her on parrot mash but hopefully she will like it.

I think that Ruby has been plucking too long for her feathers to fully recover, she has the odd new feather growth but tends to pull them before they grow out of their sheath. Despite this, she has not plucked much at all, just the odd new feather and a few downy feathers.
Ruby had chewed some of her flights off before she came to me, and because she chewed at them, the remaining sheaths/quills tends to annoy her and she tends to preen/chew at the tatty ends, but hopefully these will fall out in time and she will allow her new flights to grow through. Despite the chewing of her flights her flying is improving and she even managed to take off from the floor the other week which was lovely to see. She doesn’t fly well, and tends to crash a lot, but as she gets stronger in flight her landings will get better.

Overall she’s doing brilliantly, and I’m very pleased with her, she’s a cracking little addition to our family, and I love her to bits :)

Update On Lady The Cockatoo!

December 28th, 2011
Update On Lady The Cockatoo!

Lady is doing very well, she has met the new re-home I have, and providing that Lady gets all the attention, she’s not been bothered by the new arrival :)

Lady is coping in the parrot very well, although she’s not utilising all the space in her cage, which means she’s not exploring the rest of her toys, and as a result of that she has plucked a little more recently, but she has left her chest feathers alone :) She has plucked her lower neck and her shoulders a little, but other than that, she’s been absolutely fine.
She enjoys watching us through the parrot room window, and enjoys her night time fuss and cuddles.

Lady still likes to attack anything that might interrupt her fuss and cuddles, i.e the kids, dog, cats……
So her fuss and cuddles are limit to the evenings, when she can come into the lounge without causing havoc or inflicting pain……..
Well, most of the time…..

Here is a photo of Lady attacking one of my cats, who was trying to sleep behind my legs, and was not bothering with Lady at all….

Here is the second photo which shows a very pleased Lady after BITING the cat and giggling to herself……

The poor cat was not impressed!!!

There is never a dull moment with Lady around, she makes me laugh sooooooo much, she can be very Jekyll and Hyde at times, but my life wouldn’t be the same without her. I adore the little bones off her :)

From Poppy To Ruby!!

December 27th, 2011
From Poppy To Ruby!!

After having some difficulty with having 2 Poppy’s in the house (Poppy the parrot and Poppy the cat), we made the decision to change Poppy the parrot’s name, we decided to name her Ruby. She has adapted to her new name brilliantly and seems to like it very much, especially when we sing songs that have Ruby in the title to her, and she even recognises the songs when they come on the radio!! :)

We have had a fantastic few weeks with Ruby, her character is really starting to show!! She hasn’t bothered about the Christmas decorations, and only got a little upset when I moved one of her perches, which was soon rectified.

We had Ruby’s test results back, and she tested Negative for Psittacosis and PBFD :)

Since the test results came back clear, we have been slowly introducing her to the other birds. I started with my Amazon first, then my Cockatoo, then my Grey (the bully boy). Ruby has responded very well, and has become very confident around my Amazon, she is not so keen on the Cockatoo because she flies a lot, and Ruby gets a little frightened. When I introduced her to my Grey, she was extremely confident to the point that my Grey was petrified of her, which was so funny to watch as he picks on the other birds something rotten!! He really didn’t know what to do….. I placed him on a T stand near Ruby’s cage, and she climbed and tried to reach over to him to get a closer look, and every time she leaned over he flew away!!
Ruby really has taken it all in her stride, so much so, that I took her into the parrot room, I showed her one of the Java Trees, and without hesitation she stepped straight onto it!!! :)
She played quite happily in the parrot room for a few hours, and seemed to be very comfortable, she wasn’t bothered by the other birds being around her at all :)

It really has be an absolute joy to watch her confidence grow, she’s coming on in leaps and bounds!!
She has settled into our family as if she’s always been there, and has taken to her new diet so well, that after only dropping a small amount of weight, she has now put the weight and more back on, and now weighs in at 405g :)

I’m so proud of her, and wouldn’t be without her for the world!!!

Here is a photo of Ruby in the parrot room chewing a pine cone :)
