Doodah Becomes George!

April 8th, 2012
Doodah Becomes George!

Monday 2nd April we travelled to pick up a 2 and half yr old grey named Doodah.

Doodah had been part of the same family since he was a baby and had been loved by them all somewhere along the way he had begun to lost the bond with his owners and this was heartbreaking for them to see, he was well cared for and provided for and certainly loved but they felt he lacked in the interaction they so wanted to give, and so they made the heartbreaking decision to rehome him to the AGPC and hoped he could someday learn to love someone else the way he once did them.

When i bought him into our home i decided to give him a complete change inc a new name of George i also gave all new toys and perches but kept the one he saw as his comfort zone, where he seemed to retreat to if anyone he felt unsure of entered his space the only person he really seemed to like was our 7 yr old sonhe seemed to feel rather nervous and certainly uncomfortable around the rest of us so all his day to day care was led by our son, he chatted with him and did al the feeding and watering and even sat by him whilst i did the cleaning.

George had always been on a seed based diet but after the first spoon full i refused to give anymore and instead fed a pellet which George willingly took to in a instant.

I had originally thought George would be a long term foster as the road to learn to accept a adult was going to be a long one until on Wednesday only a couple days after George arrived a friend of mine from AGPC came to visit, again it was her daughter George excepted but them i couldnt believe my eyes when George allowed Jo into his space and also took food from her hands he even began to play on the floor but that was until i again entred the room
it seemed that little George had selected his own new mummy so the very next day i delivered George to his new forever family it seems like it was a match meant to be!

So on that note i will hand his blog over to his new mummy Jo.

Meet New Rescue Sam!

Meet New Rescue Sam!

Sam is a 30 yr old (at least) CAG, we picked him up sunday 12th feb from a very tearful lady she has known Sam his whole 30 yrs with her family and he had lived with her for the past 3 n half years but she felt she was no longer giving him all he needed.

He is quite a bad plucker and has been for a few years and she also seems to think he had forgotten how to talk as once was quite chatty, we have heard the odd word and a lot is said quietly under his breath
we settled him in and soon replaced his petshop seed with Tidymix and a couple brands of pellet which he is happily now eating and choosin over the seed mix.

After talkin to his previous owner and lookin at his behaviour we came to the conclusion HE is more than likely actually a SHE so Sam became Sammie.

She seems willing to except tickles through the bars from all members of our family but shows extra interest in our eldest son yet was said to hate men and actually growl at them but so far we are yet to witness this im alowed in her cage to change bowls and adjust toys without bites though she is yet to show interest in coming towards my hands to be picked up but im sure in time with patience this can be achieved.

After just over a week with Sammi i know she will make a wonderful companion bird she is pleasant and so sweet and its been a real pleasure on givin her a new chance in life xx

Coco`s Update Jan 2012

Well its been 11 wks today with Coco, though it seems like she has always been hereand yes you guessed it we decided we would become her new forever family she is such a happy bird and a delight to have as part of our flock we have converted her onto a pellet diet and she will eat any veg, fruit, pulse sprout or nut you give her.

She loves to shred and she can get through a pine toy within a few hours she is still in love with Karl but is getting less and less aggressive with the rest of us as we approach her cage and i mostly get a head tickle each morning when i uncover her.

Her vocabulary is pretty good and we have soon realized it does`nt take her too long to pick up new words so you do have to be careful as to what you say around her

Havin Coco has taught me something huge when it comes to my greys, and no matter how much in the past iv been told it has took this little bold bellied birdie to teach me that pluckers can be happy and i thank AGPC for allowing Coco into our lives

ill leave it there with a few pics, final one being of the whole Beaker flock.

Meet Coco – AGPC’s Rehome

Meet Coco - AGPC's Rehome

3 weeks ago a trip was made to go and Pick up a 18yr old female grey named Coco, Coco is a plucker and has been for years, the owners decided it was in her interest to rehome her as they didn`t feel they have the time she deserves and felt this is unfair.

As we bundled her into the travel cage the owner got quite upset and im not ashamed to say i had tears too, they clearly love her very much.
.
She travelled very well, chirping and chattering under her breath as we drove home she seems to have settled really well and really taken to Karl and our eldest son,

She is enjoyin the shredding toys im givin her and doesnt seem too fussy in what she is given to eat, and even took to the new cage without a fuss she is full of character and always has a noise to match the situation, she loves to dance and despite bein able to fly really well she prefers to have a wander around the floor, she is such a delight and even joins in when we laugh at her.

Anyway here are couple pics
