Ruby, Lady, & Rocky

January 17th, 2013
Ruby, Lady, & Rocky

Ruby –
RUBY CAN FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
When Ruby arrived, she had plucked her wing so bad that she couldn’t fly, she could only fall with style. Twice in the last 2 weeks she has flown, once from the floor, and then yesterday, from one cage to the other which was a good 8-10 ft. I knew she would do it at some point, as she has always exercised her muscles and wings which has kept her a strong little birdie. She prefers to climb though, but at least she can fly if she wants which is brilliant!! :)

Lady –
Lady is still doing well. She has finally ventured onto the table top stand that I have on a shelf in front of the window which looks in from the kitchen through to the parrot room. She seems quite impressed that she can get right up to the window to see what we’re doing, if I wipe a cloth over the window she chases it and beakbutts the window and generally has a hissy fit because she can’t get it! :)
Next to the stand is a large foraging bucket which has bits and bobs of old toys, foot toys, wicker balls, and large beads etc etc etc, she has been enjoying rummaging through it to chew whatever she can, resulting in a right old mess for me to clean :)

Rocky -
There’s not much to update on Rocky really, he’s still climbing well around the trees, and likes to have a swing on the hanging spiral rope. He is preening my other Amazon more, and pines after her if she flies away from him. He still can’t fly, and if he falls, he falls like a lead balloon, but the fact that he is climbing with more confidence every day hopefully means his muscles are strengthening :)
He’s still a noisy boy, it’s my other Amazon who is the loudest though, but my word when the pair of them get going it’s deafening!!! I wouldn’t have it any other way :D

Rocky -
Rocky is doing great, he is still eating well and is chewing and playing with his toys. He is still a very noisy boy, and paired with my other Amazon, they scream the street down, but that’s just the way I like it. He’s going through a moult, but is still his usual self. Other than that, there’s really not much to update on him at the moment. :)

Ruby -
Ruby is still her usual chirpy happy self, still whistling away, and is full of beans, she eats like a little piggy, and her feathers on her right wing are so much better and she only has one flight feather missing which is fantastic. I’m so pleased with her. :)

Lady -
Lady is still very demanding, she goes through her toys like a hot knife through butter. She still plucks her cheek and neck feathers, but we’ve come such a long way from where she was when she first arrived over two years ago. I’m very proud of her.

I cannot put into words how much I adore these birds, and they are a massive part of my life and my family. I wouldn’t be without any of them, not for the world :)

Lady -
Lady is doing great, she’s enjoying chewing her way through her never ending supply of shredding toys :) I know our supplier has some of Lady’s favourite style of palm and paper toys in stock, so Lady will be a very happy bunny when I place the next order :)
She still doesn’t like the ceiling toys, but she will still carry on with her day regardless, and flies around them when she needs to.

Ruby –
Ruby is going through another moult now that the heating is on, so she’s a little grouchy, but she is coping very well, bless her.
I’ve given her a little pot with a different variety of chewable toys to encourage her to forage. I have placed the pot on the bottom of her cage, and she has chewed her way through most of them already :)

Rocky -
Rocky is still as noisy as ever along side my other Amazon :) He has now mastered manoeuvring around one of the Java stands, and he is now out most of the time which is fantastic. The only time he goes in the big cage is to give his feet different textures from the smooth branches of the Java stand. He ventures onto the sisal spiral rope by his tree, he doesn’t go too high, but seems to enjoy chewing the rope more than climbing on it!!

There are big changes ahead next year as we are looking to move property, and we will be looking for somewhere that suits all our needs. I have my fingers crossed that we’ll be able to find a new home with a bigger room for the birdies to play :)

Ruby – Little Madam!

Ruby - Little Madam!

Ruby is doing great, and not a lot to update on her really :)

The other day I decided to bring her into the lounge for some TV and some cuddles, which she seemed to enjoy. She was whistling and dancing away :)

We we’re both enjoying some quality time together until she decided to do the biggest POOP all down my jeans!!!
She must have been saving that one up for me!! I had to rush off and get cleaned up while she sat watching the TV :)
The little madam!!!

Ruby has also had a cage full of new toys this month, which she seems to be enjoying.
She’s such a little sweetie :)

Ruby – Almost Fully Flighted

August 10th, 2012
Ruby - Almost Fully Flighted

Ruby has been moulting well over the past few weeks, and her right wing which she had chewed the flight feathers off previously, is recovering brilliantly!! She is now almost fully flighted and it will be interesting to see whether she will take flight. She’s a strong little girl, and although she hasn’t flown since she’s been here, she knows how to exercise her muscles, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before she tries to fly :)

I don’t think Ruby will become fully feathered again as she has been a plucker for too long, which has caused damaged to her feather follicles, but her neck and chest have lovely fluffy downy feathers :)

She’s out of her cage most of the time, but has to be watched as she loves to climb down the side of her cage to stretch over and chew and throw around my neatly stacked newspapers!! She thinks it’s fun, but I’m the one left to clear up her mess!! :P :D

She’s such a happy, bouncy little girl, and is very cheeky too, I adore her :D
