Ruby Roo

July 20th, 2012
Ruby Roo

Ruby is still doing great :)

She’s still dancing and whistling her little heart out, and is still eating like a little piggy :)

She has finally starting moulting, which I’m surprised it’s taken so long!! Ruby came to us in November, and of course we had the heating on for the winter, which usually produces a moult, but with Ruby it didn’t.
She’s a little grumpy at times, which of course is to be expected, but already she has all new feathers coming through, and some new flight feathers :)
I’m really hoping that she will leave her new flights alone, as the new flights coming through are the ones she had previously chewed off, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed but so far… So good. Overall though she’s still a happy, bouncy little girl :D

We’ve also discovered something new to keep her entertained apart from toys, which is to place paper on top of her cage, which she loves to hang upside down and shred it into a million pieces, she’s like a little bat :) She really enjoys it!!

Ruby is an absolute little bundle of joy, she really is a fun loving little girl, and I adore her!! :)

Ruby – The Chewer

Ruby - The Chewer

Ruby is still doing great, still a happy little girl, and still whistling and dancing her little heart out.
We had a slight change around due to taking on another rescue, so we moved Ruby next to my Amazon’s tree which is in front of the window. Ruby loves it as she can see us when we’re in the kitchen, but the other side of Ruby’s cage is a plastic shelving unit where I keep food, bowls, newspapers etc. Ruby climbs down the side of the cage and chews whatever she can reach!! :)
On the bottom shelf I keep the newspapers, she climbs all the way down the side of her cage, chews them, then throws them around the floor :P
She chews the shelf itself, and basically anything she can reach.

When I spray her in the bathroom, she will also chew the shower curtain.
Of course she loves chewing her toys too, she just likes to chew everything else too!! :D

Next week she is having her very own Java Tree, and will be out on her tree for most of the day, this will give her more variety, and an opportunity to climb more and chew more, as she doesn’t like to leave her area, which at the moment is her cage. She doesn’t have to leave her tree, so should still feel safe, but will be able experience the branches of the tree which will be good for her legs :)

In the late afternoon she will then go back into her cage on her textured perches, which will keep her feet in good condition, so she’ll have the best of both worlds. If she’s happy to sleep on her tree she can, and she’ll just go back to her tree at bedtime. She has slept on top of her cage before so, I’m sure she’ll be happy sleeping on her tree as she loves being out.

Ruby Roo – Party Animal

Ruby Roo - Party Animal

Ruby’s doing great, she still eats like a piggy, and is such a happy little soul.
She loves being in the parrot room, and although she doesn’t really interact with the other birds, she loves whistling her tunes to them. She loves to be out, but doesn’t want to come away from her cage very often. She has climbed down onto the parrot room floor a few times to go exploring, but other than that she’s happy chewing her toys on top of her cage.
Ruby cannot fly because she chewed some of her flight feathers off, she has been a plucker since about the age of 2 – 3 years. I’m hoping that the chewed quills will moult out, and she lets her new feathers grow, as I would love to see her fly.

The biggest problem with Ruby, is that the girl just wants to parrrrrrrrteeeeeeeee!!!
When the other birds are ready for bed, Ruby is ready for a wild night on the tiles, and I swear if she was human, she would outdo me by a mile!!!!
This makes for quite a challenge when trying to get her to go to bed in the evenings, I assume this stems from her days as a pub parrot many years ago, it certainly adds to her already massive character!!! :D

She is an absolute star, and I adore her, she is such a tiny little girl with the biggest personality, she is an absolute joy to have, I wouldn’t be without her for the world :)

Poppy 3 Months On

Poppy 3 Months On

Hi and sorry I’ve not updated in a while, been working like mad.

Poppy is doing really well since her last update. She has moved into a double cage with Marley, the divider is still in though as he tries to dominate her. They have an ultra violet lamp above the cage which poppy loves sitting under and it’s having a good effect upon her feathers, she now has all her down feathers under her wings and she is finally starting to get feathers on her chest all be it little fluffy ones.

She had her first experience of the garden yesterday in her travel cage and seemed overawed by the goings on, I’m sure with the nicer weather arriving she won’t take long to be familiarised with things.

She has mastered plenty of new words and is a joy to have in the home. Poppy and Marley are very happy together and it’s great they both have the company of one another.

Little Ruby Update

Little Ruby Update

Ruby is doing great, and is such a lovely little girl. She has moved into the parrot room with the other birds, and seems to be enjoying the antics that occur in there. She has even taught my other Grey some of her noises, beeps, and whistles :)
She doesn’t seem too fussed about being with the other birds, and if any of them fly to her, she soon tells them where to go, she may be little, but boy can she hold her own!!! My other Grey, who is a BIG boy, is absolutely petrified of her, even though she seems quite keen on him, he won’t go anywhere near her!!! :P

Ruby loves her food and eats very well for such a little birdie, and is maintaining a great weight. She doesn’t seem to like big pelleted foods or treats, but gets on great with smaller foods.

Ruby is a fantastic little addition to our family, she is a little party animal which I would think comes from her being a pub parrot when she was younger, and I’m pretty sure she could show us a thing or two!!!
She loves music and really gets her groove on, that girl can bust some moves, all she needs to do is teach the hubby!!! :P

Here she is, in between munching on her food :)
