Sammi Update.

September 9th, 2011
Sammi Update.

Its getting difficult thinking of anything interesting to update with lately as nothing much ‘new’ is happening. Sammi had to have a trip to the vet as his poop became rather smelly and runny. He was given a probiotic, antibiotic and had a chlamydia test that came back clear! Also the vet noticed a slight murmur on his heart but said its most likely age related so he had a short boost of medication to try help that. He was amazed how tame he is, he is deffo a mans bird because he was so comfortable being handled by the vet! He also said that for his age he is in very good condition and was pleased he eats his pellets like a good boy!

A few weeks a go I heard a commotion from the birdie room and went in to find Sammi on top of Tweaks cage and Tweak with a rather nasty looking bloody foot. He must have flown over to take a chunk out of her :0( so no im wary of letting them out close to each other. Thankfully she was ok and a little F10 cleared it up. So now I have to be extra cautious letting them out.

He still adores shredding cardboard and also loves plastic now. Megan gave him a plastic teacup from her tea party set and within a few days it was a fine powdery dust! Kept him busy!

here is a pic of Sammi with the vet

Fred: Nearly Two Months On.

Fred: Nearly Two Months On.

It’s nearly two months since Fred has joined our flock. He has moved into a brand new Montana Palace cage which he shares with Riddle (with the divider in, of course). At first I was quite scared because Riddle just wanted to have a go at Fred but after a couple of days that was the end and there hasn’t been an argument since.

I bought a load of toys for Fred and though he’s not really interested in most of them he took a really likening to the willow sticks and one of Riddle’s old toys, the Shred-It. He managed to go through an entire roll of paper in just a couple of days, so I’m glad he found something he really enjoys. I will have to bulk buy the paper from now though, I think!

Note: The dowel perch is one of many, and it came with the cage. I thought there’d be no point throwing it out when he now has 6 others!

Fred has started to mimic Riddle’s copy of my sneeze. It’s an awful noise, but so funny when Riddle blesses him afterwards!

In the time since he’s been here I’ve managed to get tickles from him, and also a massive bite. Hey, you win some you lose some, right?

I hope that one day he will trust me enough to accept contact out of the cage, though he has given me handshakes (out of the cage) before.

Elvis Moves In!

Elvis Moves In!

Well over the weekend we have had a new houseguest move in by the name of Elvis. We collected him from a lovely couple who made the heartbreaking decision to re-home Elvis.

It was a terrible day for driving anywhere and it didn’t stop raining but we arrived safely home with Elvis. Elvis was nice and dry in his carrier while we were drenched putting his cage up. But once it was up he popped in no problems. He happily sat watching the world go by working out his new surroundings and wondering what on earth all the noise was coming from the other room.

Unfortunately, Jack and Leo are none to impressed that they have been evicted from their (not our) living room so that Elvis can enjoy the benefits of going in the aviary. Hard luck boys!!!

After an eventful day Elvis settled down to bed. He likes to sleep in a hoop hanging from the top of his cage and looks very cute in it. He also likes to keep telling you that “Elvis is a good boy”.

On Sunday once he had his breakfast he came straight out of his cage and flew into the aviary – and that is where he stayed till the sun went in.

More updates to follow.

Cookie Update!

Sorry its been a while since i left news of cookie but my computer has been down, well cookie is still plucking oh yes he had me fooled and i have desperatly been trying all sorts of things to stop it,he is constantly out of his cage, but it is realy habit now.

I have just started using a new liquid which has been used for some time in america and they say it takes up to five months (in realy bad cases)you measure out some to go into the drinking water, also some to go into a spray and saturate them four times a day letting them dry naturaly so will give this a try and keep you all updated.

Cookie is so sweet and likes to be out of his cage as much as possible and is starting to realy bond with me,he and poppy come out together and do a little sparring but nothing serious, they constantly chat together, call ,squark sing even, though not so well i might add but hey what the heck we enjoy it.

Cookie and poppy love to help mum to eat her lunch, tea, stealing my cooked veggies and fruit, but when she is ironing we have the best time cos we scream and yell but she cant escape cos shes stuck in the corner behind the ironing board tee hee, well she has to say goodbye now cos i need my last good spraying so i am nice and dry before bedtime,so will be in touch soon

Cookie xxx
