Testimonial From Zulu’s Old Owners!

Testimonial From Zulu's Old Owners!

It is a little under 4 weeks ago that we had to give our beloved Zulu up.It is not through want of trying when we made the decision to emigrate three years ago Parrots were allowed to be imported but in the long process it took us to get the visa they changed the rules so we were left with the heartbreaking decision what to do with our lovely girl Zulu?

A friend had offered to have her and although I knew she would be well fed and watered she would never be out of the cage or get the attention she is used to! I did consider zoos but again did not feel it was right so I even considered as much as I hate to say it now euthanasia as we were so worried that she would end up somewhere stressed and not cared for.

So I searched on the net and found the African Grey Parrot Centre and after just the first email I received from Paula I felt more confident about things. Paula and me communicated on several times as I really didn’t want to let Zulu go till the last minute however time came when we wanted her out before all the stress of the removals so Paula came to collect her

As soon as I met Paula I felt so confident and happy that we had done the right thing by Zulu, and I even feel she may well one day end up in a home where she gets even more spoilt than she was here! Unfortunately as often happens it was me who wanted a parrot hubby had no interest at all so she then bonded with him loved him to bits he could do anything with her shower her cuddle kiss you name it and she used to bite me!! So I lost all confidence with her but the day Paula got her back she text me to tell me she had Zulu out on her arm already so a good start me thinks!!!

I’m just hoping Paula will be able to get her language to calm down a bit rather blue at times, believe it or not we never actually taught her to say all those words but I think they tend to pick up the swearing easier than anything else .but I can honestly say that it was the hardest decision I have had to make rehoming Zulu but Paula has made me feel 100 percent happier about it and I am full of admiration for her she has young children yet still can find the time to delicate herself to rescuing parrots she is a very lovely caring girl.

We sure do miss Zulu around the house but at least now we are able to go off and start our new adventure knowing Zulu will be happy and it is so lovely being able to see her blog on the website such a brilliant idea really does bring comfort x

Testimonial From Syd’s Old Owners

Testimonial From Syd’s Old Owners

It has been several months since Paula, Rick and the children came to our house in Wallington to collect Syd.

We have had Sid for over 2 years after a good friend of ours emigrated to Portugal, and as I had had an African Grey before we were more than happy to take Syd.

Syd is a great bird, very chatty and definitely a man’s bird, we loved having Syd around, but unfortunately she was constantly plucking her feathers, and as myself and my partner were at work all day, we felt it unfair to leave her on her own all day, (even though we kept the television on all day).

So with some reluctance we decided that it would be kinder to Syd for her to go to a home where she deserved the attention 24/7 that we could not give her.

We contacted Paula, who was very keen to take her on.

Although we miss her very dearly we can see that she has gone to a very loving home, and Paula and family are taking great care of her.

They keep in touch with us about her progress, and would like to thank Paula and her family for the great job they are doing with not only Syd, but other parrots and we would really love one day to go and visit them.

We wish them all the best for the future.

Kindest regards
Jack and Eileen

Testimonial From Sammi’s Old Owners

Testimonial From Sammi's Old Owners

We can’t thank Paula & Rick enough for helping us rehome Sammi!

He came to us after a very dear friend of ours died suddenly. Sammi was over 30 years old, and quite withdrawn. He was due to be sold off to the highest bidder essentially, and had been unfairly labelled as a vicious and unfriendly bird.

When we got him home, we found him to be inquisitive and playful…once he’d got over his initial waryness, he ventured out of his cage and onto our kitchen worktop…which we quickly turned into a play area for him with cardboard boxes and toys. He loved Graeme, my hubby, and would happily step up for him and have a cuddle. We found he was much more uncomfortable around women, and wondered if he’d perhaps had some bad experiences.

Several months after our initial ‘rehabilitation’, and also after falling in love with Sammi as a great character, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome him. We have a little dog and the pair of them used to find great amusement in chasing around after each other! We also have a busy lifestyle and felt that, now Sammi was enjoying human company…it was unfair of us to leave him for long periods during the day. Sammi also meant so much to us because of the loss of our friend.

We found the AGPC on the web and contacted Paula who reassured us that they would be able to find just the right home for Sammi….and they were so right!

After coming over to meet him and pick him up….and putting our mind at ease with the sensitive and professional way they handled him…they rehomed him with Toria & Dil. They have kept us up to date with the amazing progress that Sammi has made with his new, loving family! He is so lucky with Toria…and she has provided him with a stable, attentive and fulfilling life…what more could a parrot ask for! Me and Hubby really look forward to checking his rehoming diary and seeing all the wonderful pictures of his home, his toys his ‘girlfriend’ Tweak and know he is in the best possible place.

So thank you very much Rick & Paula, and thank you too Toria & Dil for making Sammi’s life fantastic!

Keep up the good work!

Love Kim & Graeme
