Another Rehome – Meet Trulli

March 29th, 2012
Another Rehome - Meet Trulli

On Monday, March 18th we went and collected Trulli, she will be six in April, she clips her feathers but saying that she’s in lovely condition, she’s huge!

She came from a lovely lady who loved her so much but no longer can keep her due to personal circumstances.
Her previous owner has had her since she was a tiny baby, she actually chose her as an egg and then was there all the way through her hand rearing, so as you can imagine they are very close and when we left to come home she was heart broken saying goodbye.

Trulli is healthy and has come with a good size cage although it did have pad locks on it as she manages to open the doors, we have now popped D-Links on to stop her from getting out!

She does seem to accept men and woman, she has a good vocabulary (she does not swear) and she does step up when asked, she loves head tickles too.
She loves her veg which is good and we’re now beginning converting her to AZ pellets.

Her owner said that she was vet checked and is healthy but she never had her DNA tested, she is closed rung.

Although she’s referred to as a she I think she’s a male.

She’s took a real shine to Stevie, she dropped her wings and started to make baby noises.

She will make a lovely addition to her forever home once one is matched for her.

Say Hi To Charlie!

February 20th, 2012
Say Hi To Charlie!

Charlie is a seven year old CAG, we collected him from his previous owners on Wednesday 15th February.
His previous owners loved him so much and it was a tearful goodbye, but they put his needs first and re homed him.

He is a plucker and has been plucking for roughly a year and around that time he stopped talking, he was fed on Monkey nuts, Sunflower seeds and grapes but now is in the process of being converted to pellets, we are also giving him a tiny bit of Tidymix to help him convert.
We’ve also been giving him Mash/Chop and a little bit of Palm fruit extract on toast which he’s now enjoying, he’s also getting daily essentials.

He’s a timid bird but he’s starting to come out of his shell, and has now started to talk again, he has such a cute voice.

Charlie can not fly as he was clipped as a baby, but most of his flight feathers have grown back so maybe with some practise he’ll soon be able to.

He enjoys climbing around the cage and his favourite toy seems to be his bell as he’s always ringing it…lol

He was not too keen on having a shower/misting, but is now tolerating it, I’m also misting him in the evening with Avix Soother spray to help sooth his skin with him being a plucker, he does seem to enjoy the interaction when being sprayed as I make it a “fun” game.

When out of the cage, he loves to sit on top and watch what’s going on.

I’m sure that his new forever family will be very happy with him as he loves company and attention.
He’s a real darling.

Meet Scrim – AGPC Newest Rescue

Meet Scrim - AGPC Newest Rescue

On Sunday 5th Feb 2012, Stevie and I collected a lovely CAG, she’s almost 17 years old.
She needed to be re homed as her owner has health problems.

She traveled very well from Preston to Glasgow and “beeped” all the way while we traveled.
She is a timid birdie and slightly nervous.

Once we got her here, I got her out of her cage so she could stretch her wings, she put her head down and I gave her lots of tickles.

She has had a very bad clip many years ago and her feathers have never grown back.
She did try to fly but she had a very graceful crash landing on our floor, poor thing, but she was unharmed and was very happy to be picked up.
She also has a few pressure sores on one of her feet, but they are not serious, she just needs different perches.
She also has a slightly long beak, but that again will trim down once she starts to rub it on good perches and chews wooden toys etc.
At the moment we are in the process of introducing toys to her as she needs to learn how to play with them, we popped one toy in her cage and although she has not played with it, it has not stopped her traveling about the cage, and she does go near it so I’m sure she’ll start to play soon.

I’ve also introduced her to Animal Zone Pellets and Mash/chop. which she’s enjoying.

Her previous owners said she does talk, but far we’ve not heard her talk, but she does beep and whistle.

She will be moving to her new forever home at the weekend, she’ll be going to live with PamH and her husband Jim, Pam is a member of this forum, Pam has decided to change Scrims name to Topsy, so from now on we’ll be using her new name.

I know she’ll be very happy when she moves to Pam and Jim’s and will be spoilt and loved so much, she’s a very lucky birdie to be getting Pam and Jim as parronts.

Rosie Loves To Explore!

November 5th, 2011
Rosie Loves To Explore!

I thought it would be a good idea to update you all on how Rosie is doing as she’s been with us now for over a month.

Rosie is very loving and playful, she’s a good talker and has now started copying Frodo and Bilbo, she’s also now says Rosie, which is great, and both Frodo and Bilbo shout Rosie, which makes us laugh.
She’s very vocal in a morning and it now sounds like a competition is going on with the three of them, who can shout the loudest.

Rosie is a great eater and loves all her pellets, veg, fruit etc and she loves her herbal tea. She also loves to be sprayed, as soon as I say shower time, she climbs to her top perch and opens her wings so more of her can get wet.

We find it very weird that we have fallen so in love with her after such a short time, she’s a gorgeous bird who has stolen our hearts, it’s like she’s been here forever.

Although Rosie is still plucking and clipping her feathers, she does now have two red tail feathers and lots of pins on her chest so we know we’re on the right track with her, it’s just going to take a lot of time and patience which we have plenty of.

She loves to explore the play stands, the kitchen and toys and is still getting on well with Frodo and Bilbo when they are out together every day, although we still like to give all three birds individual out of cage time.

Photos to be added shortly as they are stuck on my dead hard drive!! Paula

Introducing Rosie to Frodo and Bilbo

October 21st, 2011
Introducing Rosie to Frodo and Bilbo

Rosie, Frodo, Bilbo and StevieThis evening we decided that we would try Rosie out with Frodo and Bilbo, we decided to do this because they land on each other’s cages and kiss through the bars.

Stevie and I are not novices in introducing birds so we felt confident that if things did not work out we would be able to separate them without the use of towels, water etc.
Both Frodo and Bilbo were already out of their cages, so I opened Rosie’s cage and let her out, she flew to the play stand and stood playing for a while; both Frodo and Bilbo kept an eye on her, but did not approach her.
Frodo and Bilbo then flew to Stevie and Rosie watched them, she then just flew to Stevie and landed on the back of the sofa, again, both Frodo and Bilbo watched her but did nothing, Rosie then jumped down on to Stevie’s shoulder, which ended up with Stevie having Rosie on one shoulder, Frodo on the other and Bilbo on his head, so I grabbed my camera and by the time I took the picture, Bilbo was stood behind Stevie on the sofa, but I took the picture anyway.
They were out together for 30 minutes with no incidents; it was great to see them out all together and behaving nicely to each other. We’ll now be letting them out together for short intervals and build up their confidence with each other.
We are very happy how this introduction has gone so far and we hope it continues.
