Angus – Makes friends!

Angus - Makes friends!

Although it’s safe to say that Angus is a bit on the bossy side, it’s safe to say that he and Miss Gary are now friends. Although there is a way to go before they can be trusted totally, it’s clear that they quite like each other.

Angus is happy to shread Garys toys for her to save her the bother, and to empty her pellets onto the floor to help her keep a trim figure, he’s such a considerate boy.

He’s also happier to spend time with my hubby now even though he still prefers me.
His talking is coming on too, hes now saying some of Garys words, unfortunately Gary is also saying some of his !!!
His favourite place in the world is on ‘his’ play stand and when he’s out he spends most of his time on there. Here are a few photographs of Angus and his ‘friend’ Gary

New Rescue for AGPC – Meet Oscar

New Rescue for AGPC - Meet Oscar

Here is Oscar. I collected him from his owner John recently, who sadly had to find a new home for him due to becoming ill. John was clearly very sad to see Oscar go, but he knows rehoming Oscar via the AGPC was the best thing to do in the circumstances.

Oscar travelled very well and shouted a few ‘hellos’ along the way. We built up his cage and settled him in and he was soon tucking into his food. During the evening he was pretty quiet but was left to settle in.

The next day he came out to play and treated us to some of his words. He shouts for ‘Rosie’ and tells Layla to ‘get down’ he says ‘hello’ and when we say goodbye he tells us ‘see ya later’
He is on a seed diet at the moment but I’ve seen him nibbling on the odd pellet. He’s had some pomegranate, radish, grape, pasta, carrot and Brussels sprouts.

He is a fantastic flyer and does several laps of the room regularly and loves to play on top of his cage with his new toys.
He can hear my 2 birds Gary and Angus from the other room and they call to each other and shout ‘hello’. Oscar is a lovely bird and a credit to John.

Here are a few photographs -

Angus Moves House!

July 29th, 2011

As Angus and Gary seemed to be getting on so well, we thought we would risk buying a cage for them to share. The cage we chose has a divider, so that we could begin with them separate and work up from there. In no time at all they seemed to be getting on well, so we removed the divider for short periods while we could supervise. It went really well and they now spend most of the day together in one big space, sharing toys food and playtime. We have still to get to the stage where we can trust them together when we are out – but so far so good, we are pleased it’s gone so well.

As well as a new house he has a new name – he calls himself ‘An-goose’ we have no idea where that came from but it’s very funny and Gary calls him it too. He’s also perfected the ‘bomb’ and the coronation street theme tune, converted to pellets and almost grown his clipped feathers out.

Getting To Know Angus!

Getting To Know Angus!

Well Angus has been with us for a month now, and has settled so well you would think he had been here forever.
His vocabulary is getting bigger and bigger and both birds are now saying each others words, which means they must be talking to each other a fair bit when we are out – because when we are in – they scream a lot !!!

Well I have discovered that Angus loves to be outside in the sun and even lifted his wings for a spray in the garden at the weekend. He also loves to forage. I have to be very good at keeping his cage bottom clean as he spends most of his time there, lifting the newspaper up to find what’s underneath, he also loves to rip up newspaper to find a treat and I’m so glad that he likes the play stand because Gary won’t go near it.

The strangest thing I have found out about Angus though is where he likes to sit. When I’m on the settee in the evening he goes mad to sit behind my neck underneath my hair so he can give my head a massage with his beak.

Here are a few photos of Angus outside, exploring the parrot corner and ripping up paper.

Angus Meets Gary!

Angus Meets Gary!

After spending a few weeks settling in, calling to Gary from the next room, we thought it was time for them to meet each other.

Gary was very confident, even though she is much smaller and Angus seemed quite nervous of her. He tried to stay out of her way, flying to the settee and the play stand but she just flew after him. They met up on the back of the settee and at first there was a bit of ‘beaking’ but no major aggression and no loss of feathers. Over the next few days we gradually let them spend more and more time out of the cage and they now seem to quite like each other.

They are obviously teaching each other the odd word or too. Angus now tells me he’s a ‘good girl’ and Gary is shouting ‘Lucy’ – a dog she has never met and in a Scottish accent too.

Angus is VERY affectionate to me, he likes a cuddle, will step up and has the longest head tickles you can imagine. He has settled in so well and we are so happy he is part of our family, but no-one is happier than Gary who sneaks into his cage when no-one is looking and pinches his seed. Conversion to pellets starts next week ! !
