Lady – Major Setback

May 5th, 2012
Lady - Major Setback

Over the past few months, we have been extremely busy. We have been decorating our home, and working overtime which has meant that Lady has had the attention she’s needed. She was coping very well, but a few weeks ago there was a sonic boom, which sounded like a vehicle had ploughed into the back of the parrot room. This of course shook the birds up pretty bad, and since then Lady has started to pull out her wing feathers.
I was very heart broken at first, as this as far as I’m aware is a first for Lady, but this week things have been a lot more settled, and Lady has been getting back into her normal routine, and there has been no more wing feathers plucked as yet. I have again resorted to the attitude that she is a plucker, and it’s what pluckers do, and I am now focusing on a new project for Lady and the other birds….

Next week I’m going to change the parrot room around, which should benefit all the birds, the reason for the change around is because none of the birds get on, which makes their play time very difficult to organise because some of the birds will chase the others (Lady being one of the chasers). The change around should work quite well, and will be much better for all of them, especially Lady :)

At the moment Lady is in one side of a double cage, then there are 2 other cages, and a Java Tree, from next week there will only be 2 single cages and 3 trees. Although it sounds a little crazy only have 2 cages when none of the birds get along, but there’s method behind the madness, and the plan should work very well. It would take to long to explain, but hopefully on the next blog I can explain in more detail, and by then the room will have been in place for some time.

Sad News And Busby Get’s His Forever Home

Sad News And Busby Get's His Forever Home

Busby has been with us now since March and Jen his owner was moving and having to go to work full time and she wanted Busby to be somewhere around people and not on his own so she contacted us, she was so upset when she handed him over and I asked her was she doing the right thing, he is such a lovely bird she had done so much to bring him round to a cuddly tame little grey, it was left that she would get herself moved and then let me know if she wanted him back as she missed him so much!!

The last contact I had with Jen was on the 22nd March when she emailed me in reply to me telling her how much Busby loved everyone and even the children! I emailed her back with some photos of Busby enjoying the sunshine outside in the garden but never heard anything back and thought she must be busy with moving.

Sadly I had a call from Jens Son who told me Jen had sadly passed away in Early April very suddenly which left all her family really shocked as she was quite well when I met her, I was very shocked also and i told her i would look after Busby and that is what I will do.

Jen was laid to rest on the 19th April 2012 and my thoughts are still with her family, she was such a lovely lady and when I met her she made a massive impression on me, she was such a strong woman and I will never forget her – RIP Jen i will look after your little man and keep his blog updated for you to see x

So Busby’s new forever home is right here with us and he fits in great as you can see below –

Archie Has Settled Himself In!

May 2nd, 2012
Archie Has Settled Himself In!

This is my first update on this very special boy.  I went over to see Mandy just over ten days ago after been chosen to give him his forever home. What a perfect bird he is. He has clearly been so well cared for and socialised by his previous owners. Mandy explained the circumstances leading up to him being rehomed and I can only imagine what a tough decision it must have been for them. They were very kind to send him to his new home with all of his toys, his cage and a travel cage too, such a spoilt boy!!

Archie will go to absolutely everyone, such a rarity. I have been careful not to overwhelm him but he sits on his cage door flapping his wings until he is picked up by anyone he takes a fancy to. He is left out all the time we are home and he is so content to play on top of his cage or down on the floor with us. I only work a few hours a day so he comes out for an hour or so before I go, then again for an hour about lunchtime, then for at least 7 hrs before his bedtime. When he is covered at night, he peeps under his covers, says SHHHH  and says NIGHT. It makes me laugh every time as its just so cute. He is quite chatty and now he has had chance to settle we have heard: Archie, Hello Archie, Good Boy, Alright?, and lots of noises. I have already instructed my partner to make him a shelf for above his cage for another play area. He is yet to see the huge playstand I have!!!

Due to the fact he is so handleable, he has been in his travel cage and has been out visiting to some relatives, my work, been down the park, in the garden, in the bathroom…..in fact, where we go, he goes!! He has given my children (aged 14 and 11 yrs) such confidence as our previous Grey was rather feisty and would only tolerate me!. Archie has taken rather a shine to my daughter and chooses to sit with her in the evening demanding head rubs. He is so gentle, calm and laid back. I really have never met such a perfect boy. I am so delighted to have him and will of course keep his blog updated regularly.

Many many thanks to AGPC (Paula and Mandy) for choosing me as Archie’s match. I know it was a very difficult decision for his previous owners to let him go, I promise you he will be so loved and spoilt. I have your written notes about him and am keeping his routine as close to how  it was when he was with you. You should be so proud of him, he is truly perfect.

Oscar’s Update May 2012

Oscar's Update May 2012

Oscar loves Shaun. That’s really all I have to tell you !!

The 2 of them have bonded so strongly it’s lovely. He doesn’t seem to like anyone else at all – especially me but occasionally when shauns not in I have a little breakthrough. I have had one tickle through the bars which didn’t result in blood loss.

I picked him up from the floor, thinking he was Angus and he stepped up – but I spoilt it when I panicked once I realised it was Oscar and he flew off. Then he flew into the kitchen a few days ago and couldn’t find his way out, so I had to be brave and pick him up again. I got all the way into the next room before he savaged me – now that’s progress!

He’s so funny and we have a love – hate relationship. I love him, he hates me.

Here are a few photos

George’s Next Update

April 30th, 2012
George's Next Update

Well here’s for the next instalment.

George is settling down nicely. I have bought him a brand new cage and he has changed since going in. He is so much more settled and has more confidence which is lovely to see.

He is enjoying his regular daily showers and he also enjoys head tickles at bedtime and first thing in the morning from both Eve and I. He amazes me every day and he is quite a chatty little fella of an evening. He says night night, bye bye, kiss, tickle and he makes lots of different sounds and clicks. He’s started to enjoy some of his toys now and will happily munch his way through some shredder roll and he’s had a play with a pinyata from Scarletts.

He’s not done much chewing though yet, I need him to chew to try and reduce that huge beak of his! I’ve filled his new cage with perches and toys so if he decided to throw himself then he would break his fall, I don’t want him therutrt himself. He’s enjoying sitting right at the front of his cage on a new perch and he loves just looking around and watching the world go by. He does seem very happy and the shaking has really reduced which is fantastic for him. He loves treats in the way of a little White cheddar cheese, el paso nutriberries, palm oil and the odd palm nut. He’s looking great, he’s less dusty and he is coming on a treat.

He’s made our year not our day. So long as he is happy and settled and not frightened then I’m more than happy.

He’s made massive improvements from where we were two weeks ago so I’m thrilled with him.
