Rocky The Rock Star!

April 6th, 2012
Rocky The Rock Star!

Well, Rocky has been with us almost a month now, he has settled in really well.
He has been cleared of PBFD and Psittacosis, but the vet did confirm that he is underweight.

I have managed to convert Rocky to pellets, but he really does need to eat more, some days he eats really well, and other days he eats very little, but it’s a working progress, and we will keep trying. My vet seems to think he will be fine, so it’s just a case I’ve getting him to try more foods, and finding out what he likes.

Rocky hasn’t really taken to me or my hubby yet and is quite grumpy with us when he wants to be, which is no different to what my other Ammie was like when we first got her, so I’m not phased much to his disappointment :P
He seems to like the kids, and he loves the animals, especially our dog, he will climb down from his cage and follow her round the floor shouting hello :)
He can be handled, but at the moment it’s on his terms. He does have a habit of biting though, mainly on the face, it’s not hard, but because he does it over and over again, it can hurt. Luckily I have a little trick to stop him from doing it, so time will tell if he stops the biting. I have also managed to do some short sessions of Step-Up with him, which he does great, and I have also started doing some flapping exercises with him to help build his muscles as he is too weak to fly.

I took the plunge and have introduced him to my other Ammie, for Rocky it’s love at first sight, unfortunately my other Ammie is petrified of him, but hopefully she will realise in time that he is a gentle giant where she is concerned, and will accept him. He really does like her, and tries to show her by blowing her a kiss, and errrr by getting quite frisky!!!!! :o Lol

I don’t think Rocky is very noisy at all, he does make more frequent noises than my other Ammie and can get loud, but on the loudness scale my other Ammie wins hands down!!! :P

Overall he’s settled in well, and seems to be happy and plays with his toys really well. I hope he manages to build a bond with my other Ammie, because I really think that a birdie pal is just what he needs.

I think he’s great, and have nick named him Rocky The Rock Star, he has soooooo much potential, and I cannot wait to see him progress!! :)

The New Girl On The Block! – Meet Luckie

The New Girl On The Block! - Meet Luckie

Last Friday I set off to collect Luckie from a lovely guy called Mark.

Luckie was his mums grey and she sadly passed away and was being cared for by Mark and a family friend, Mark works full time and feels I was unfair on Luckie to be left on her own so wanted her to be with someone that will give her daily attention.

Luckie is really light and she is a big grey, she danced when I walked in and came straight out of her cage for Mark, her little treat which she likes to get herself by opening the jar is a pistachio nut rather sweet to watch!

It was a lovely day when I got home so Luckie sunned herself in the garden for a while and caught a few sun rays which she seemed to love, and listening to the other birds in the garden you can see below

Luckie has settled fine, very chatty shouting Marcus, Hello Mate in a very cockney accent, Want some, Night night, Oooooo, Nice, Whistles the Mc donalds tune and loads more, she loves being out of her cage and is a fab flyer likes to sit looking out of our window on top of the sofa!

Luckie will make someone a wonderful grey x

Ruby Roo – Party Animal

Ruby Roo - Party Animal

Ruby’s doing great, she still eats like a piggy, and is such a happy little soul.
She loves being in the parrot room, and although she doesn’t really interact with the other birds, she loves whistling her tunes to them. She loves to be out, but doesn’t want to come away from her cage very often. She has climbed down onto the parrot room floor a few times to go exploring, but other than that she’s happy chewing her toys on top of her cage.
Ruby cannot fly because she chewed some of her flight feathers off, she has been a plucker since about the age of 2 – 3 years. I’m hoping that the chewed quills will moult out, and she lets her new feathers grow, as I would love to see her fly.

The biggest problem with Ruby, is that the girl just wants to parrrrrrrrteeeeeeeee!!!
When the other birds are ready for bed, Ruby is ready for a wild night on the tiles, and I swear if she was human, she would outdo me by a mile!!!!
This makes for quite a challenge when trying to get her to go to bed in the evenings, I assume this stems from her days as a pub parrot many years ago, it certainly adds to her already massive character!!! :D

She is an absolute star, and I adore her, she is such a tiny little girl with the biggest personality, she is an absolute joy to have, I wouldn’t be without her for the world :)

Another rescue, Meet Kato

March 31st, 2012
Another rescue, Meet Kato

Kato arrived on 26/03/12, he’s gorgeous and so far friendly (with me, he did bite Stevie )
He’s 10 years old and will be 11 in June, he talks none stop and actually looks like one of my birdies, but bigger.

It was a very sad move for him and his owners, as they’ve had him from 12-13 weeks old and love him dearly, he’s showered daily and is covered at night.
He was on a seed diet but has now been fully converted to AZ pellets.

He’s had to be re homed due to personal reasons.
There were lots and lots of tears and at one point I thought they were going to change their mind, it broke mine and Stevie’s hearts listening to their very sad story and seeing how much Kato is loved.

He has now settled very well and goes to either me or Stevie.
Who ever gets to adopt him will be very happy as he’s a wonderful birdie and a joy to have in our home.

Julie
