Meet Connie – In A Bit Of A State!

Meet Connie - In A Bit Of A State!

Connie was another African Grey we Rescued at the weekend from a good friend of ours who brought her to get her out of the nightmare she was living in! She was stuck in the corner of a filthy room with a blanket over the cage on a crap diet which seemed to consist of just monkey nuts and little or no interaction with any body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so he paid to get her out of there and then passed her on to me to find her a loving forever home.

After all she has been through she is quite gentle considering, she likes her head being tickled and being spoken too.

As it was such a nice day yesterday i thought i would pop Connie into a travel cage as well as some of the other rescues to give them some sun on there backs and wind on there feathers. So they were dotted around the garden sunning themselves.

Here is Connie!

Here Is Basil - Another Timneh!

Timneh overload at the moment we collected another Timneh called Basil at the weekend.

Basil has come from a lovely lady that due to her illness has had to rehome him she has had him for 22 years so this was such a very hard thing to do for her but she knows it had to be done and was happy to find us and is looking forward to following Basil progress in his new home.

Basil has settled in really well, he mainly hides under his paper and laughs from under it, makes Zombie noises at night from under the paper which make us laugh loads and is kind of freaky!

He has been very vocal and whistles lots one of the more talkative Timnehs i have met for sure!

Here is a photo of Basil hiding under his paper, it’s so cute!

Billy Comes Home!

Billy Comes Home!

After considering taking on a baby grey a while ago with much thought and some input from other members i decided not to get one and maybe give an older bird a forever home.
Paula had posted that they needed foster homes in the south. This was my chance. After speaking to Paula we decided that I would receive Billy on the sunday, this was Friday. I texed hubby and asked him first, and he said yes. After an anxious excited wait Billy came on sunday.

He is currently in quarantine in our kitchen away from our other Timneh Bella who was also a rescue and is now 9 and a half. Billy is approximately 20/25.

It is now Tuesday morning and Billy is doing really well, settling at night after being covered, and he is eating like a horse. Fresh sweetcorn, broccoli, birdy bread, mash (not so keen on that) runner beans, potato, courgettes and he hasn’t touched one sunflower seed since he’s been here. Like all greys he loves a monkey nut but at the moment they are strictly limited to 1 a day and out of the shell. I will keep these and the odd sunflower seed for the day we let him out, and bribe him back in with these and training only.
When i uncovered him this morning he flapped his wings and bobbed his head, this is him saying hello which was cute as! He is still very quiet, few whistles but not much else, overall very quiet, but im very aware this will change lol. He has eaten brekkie this morning and is now sitting on his perch having a little preen.

Billy The Timneh!

Billy The Timneh!

After a very wet busy sunday collecting another rescue i would like you all to meet Billy!

Billy is around 20-25 years old and has lived his his current owner for about the last 8 years and he doesn’t feel he was giving Billy the time and attention he craved so contacted us for help to re home him with someone that could give this this.

He has stunning colouring to him with sort of a brown ting to his feathers and he is in really great condtion.

We was lucky enough to match Billy to a lovely lady who is on our forum who already owns a female Timneh so she has taken him on and after a month or so once he has settled she is going to slowly let them meet and fingers crossed they become best of friends :)

Once we collected Billy he was Whistling away in his travel cage seemed very happy and not at all worried

I will now hand this blog over to Karen, Billys forever home fingers crossed they get on ok.

Bailey suffered her first party.

June 12th, 2011

Here in our household we often have family get togethers. Well yesterday she experienced her first one. I had quite a crowd coming this time which included loads of children as it was my 50th birthday party and so I stuck a huge notice above her cage listing ‘ Do not touch she will bite, do not feed and do not open the cage door at all!’. I tried to put a padlock on her door, but couldnt fit one to fit so I fixed a key ring through the door catch.

Well Bailey relished all of the attention and was squawking and singing at the top of her voice. So much so, that we had to move her into the front room!! She’s never been in there before and so was not the slightest bit happy at this move and demonstrated this by going completely silient. She’s more than making up for it today though and seems to have recovered really well from all the excitment.
I cant belive how well Bailey has settled in with us after only having her for a few weeks. I’ve finally deciphered what she was saying before when she was saying ‘Good bowda cheese’ I am now convinced that its ‘Oooh, bag of chips!’ Well, that my explanation and I’m sticking to it! Ha Ha!!

We havent made much progress with the harness training. She still seems to be quite frightenend of it. I’ve been leaving it by her cage to she can see it, but if I hold it in my other hand to stroke her, she moves away from me. I wont give up though.

She will happily come to me and sit on my shoulder and if I walk round the corner, she will fly round to find me, but she isnt all that keen on being stroked when she’s out of her cage. All she wants to do is eat my college homework!! Ha Ha! I dont mind though, I’m happy as long as she is happy coming to me for attention. She must trust me to come to me, so for now, that will do. Everything needs to be done at her own pace.

Just one more thing- ‘I love my bird so much!! What did I do before she came?’

Here is Bailey trying to drink my cuppa.

Bailey, trying to drink my tea.
