Testimonial From Sammi’s Old Owners

April 11th, 2011
Testimonial From Sammi's Old Owners

We can’t thank Paula & Rick enough for helping us rehome Sammi!

He came to us after a very dear friend of ours died suddenly. Sammi was over 30 years old, and quite withdrawn. He was due to be sold off to the highest bidder essentially, and had been unfairly labelled as a vicious and unfriendly bird.

When we got him home, we found him to be inquisitive and playful…once he’d got over his initial waryness, he ventured out of his cage and onto our kitchen worktop…which we quickly turned into a play area for him with cardboard boxes and toys. He loved Graeme, my hubby, and would happily step up for him and have a cuddle. We found he was much more uncomfortable around women, and wondered if he’d perhaps had some bad experiences.

Several months after our initial ‘rehabilitation’, and also after falling in love with Sammi as a great character, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome him. We have a little dog and the pair of them used to find great amusement in chasing around after each other! We also have a busy lifestyle and felt that, now Sammi was enjoying human company…it was unfair of us to leave him for long periods during the day. Sammi also meant so much to us because of the loss of our friend.

We found the AGPC on the web and contacted Paula who reassured us that they would be able to find just the right home for Sammi….and they were so right!

After coming over to meet him and pick him up….and putting our mind at ease with the sensitive and professional way they handled him…they rehomed him with Toria & Dil. They have kept us up to date with the amazing progress that Sammi has made with his new, loving family! He is so lucky with Toria…and she has provided him with a stable, attentive and fulfilling life…what more could a parrot ask for! Me and Hubby really look forward to checking his rehoming diary and seeing all the wonderful pictures of his home, his toys his ‘girlfriend’ Tweak and know he is in the best possible place.

So thank you very much Rick & Paula, and thank you too Toria & Dil for making Sammi’s life fantastic!

Keep up the good work!

Love Kim & Graeme

Update On Max

Update On Max

Well Max has really settled in the room with the bigger birds, he obviously doesn’t come out the same times as them and he has found a new love Mark! he loves going anywhere on Mark’s shoulder and having head scratches from him.

He really is a small fella compaired to the greys but his character is about the same size. He’s a fantastic addition to our family and he loves to have the old television mag to shred to bits.

He loves Harrison high potency fine pellets too.

So all in all thinks are great.

Casper – Almost A Week In!

Casper - Almost A Week In!

Well its been a busy week. Casper has settled in really quickly, making lots of noises and watching our every move. Paula mentioned a few words he knew already but he has been saying more and more. I am not sure whether these are words he knows and now has chilled out enough to say them or they have been learnt here.

Casper comes out every evening for at least 4 hours. At the moment he comes out himself and he goes back in with a bribe of a piece of orange!! That been said, the greatest progress I have had is that he will now step up and have put him back in his cage on two occasions. A few days after he arrived, he started making these cheeping noises and allowed me to tickle his head. When he is like this I know he will definitely step up and I am on to a winner. Today he let me give him a tickle when he was behaving normally, so I really do think he is coming round.

He seems to favour me over the children although they are old enough to realise he is unpredictable and has to be treated with respect. He flies from his cage straight to me now which irritates my daughter who would love for him to fly to her.

I really do think he has settled well and I am not regretting for a minute, Here are a couple of photos of him!

New Update On Trafford

New Update On Trafford

Well Trafford is in his sixth month here so it is time for an update.

He has settled in really well and it feels as though he has always been here. His diet is coming along well, loves his veg (especially carrots) and fruit and is eating pellets although not enough as yet. Here’s a couple of photo’s of him with Zuri, they are still not the best of friends but getting better and they certainly keep each other company.

Traff likes nothing better than sitting on my shoulder and would stay there all day if he could. He is flapping his wings a lot more now so hopefully the flight muscles are getting stronger and he has flown a short distance on one occasion.

He is picking up lots of new words and sounds and embarrasses me by doing the smoke alarm as soon as I put toast in the toaster. He also tells Zuri and Storm to be quiet when the noise gets too much for him.

This last photo is of him with Zuri and Ruby

Cheeky Boy!

Cheeky Boy!

Well Cosmo has well and truly settled and is showing his true colours.  He follows Hughie everywhere and will fly all through the house to get to him.  He just loves his cuddles as you can see although he’s still not too sure about me.  We are getting there though and he did let me stroke his head through the bars of his cage this morning.  We are getting there.

Cosmo says “Hello” as soon as his cover is off in the morning and has shown his talent of singing Jingle Bells and whistling Pop Goes The Weasel.  He says he is a cheeky boy and he definitely is.  He is slowly getting to know Billy and Echo and we are keeping a close eye while they sort out the pecking order.  So far Billy isn’t too bothered but Echo likes a chase and  is still getting used to the fact there’s another bird who likes to fly about and be crazy!  That’s where I come in.  When Echo chases him I get a visit.

All in all we feel like Cosmo is really part of the family and is such a character.  I think he’s even thinking about joining the forum – certainly makes interesting reading!
