Meet Buster – Feather Plucker And Mutilator.

April 21st, 2012
Meet Buster - Feather Plucker And Mutilator.

On the 7th of April I collected a grey called Buster.

Buster is 8 Years old and belonged to a lovely lady on our forum who rescued him from a local rescue centre near her and he was in a awful mess with hardly any feathers and not very tame at all he was fed a diet of human foods like pizza and chips, within a few weeks she was able to stroke Buster like a cat and he soon began to feather up and look gorgeous again, It all went down hill when she went away for 2 weeks on holiday and they left Buster with her sister, who it seems Buster fell in love with big time and really bonded with her, once they had returned and Buster went home again the plucking got really bad and he didn’t stop there he mutilated his skin too to the point of it dripping with blood, he was taken to the vets a number of times, wore collars had skin scrapes done and ended up getting a infection under his wings from wearing the collar, so that had to be removed and he carried on, they tried diet changes and he is one stubborn bird he just wouldn’t eat so the vet advised them to carry on with the seed he was on to not let him loose to much weight, he would never come out of his cage when it was left open or let her tickle him at all very much which broke her heart, she even asked her sister to take him as this is what it seemed he wanted but as she worked long hours it wasn’t right or fair to do this so she contacted us after a really bad night when she came down to find he had picked himself so bad that there was blood all over the floor and perches.

When I picked Buster up she was so upset as she loved him so much and had tried so hard but it just couldn’t be her to give him what he needed I took him home got his cage out gave it a good clean to clean off any traces of blood and popped him inside.

It was rather late and as soon as I sat down we was greeted with a ‘NIGHT NIGHT’ in a REALLY deep voice it kind of freaked me out!!

We let him settle for a few days and I changed his seed to Tidymix which he ate with a bit of a strop and we opened his cage to see what would happen as he hadn’t come out for months(his wanting) and wow out he came straight away! :) not only that he stepped straight up onto Rick and my arm … Yay!!!

Here are a few photos of him –

I will be blogging about him and his progress his up’s and downs as they happen.

The LOVELY Luckie X

The LOVELY Luckie X

The lovely luckie rescue grey arrived with us via the very helpful Paula on April 7th 2012.

Well what can i say about the very clever cheeky girl after a very quite couple of hours she came right out of her shell with her very large list of words and phrases.

It will be two weeks this coming saturday and she has settled very well shouting my wifes name and giving my dog the run around which is really funny.

Both my children love her and i find her great company for me,as i am home 24/7 due to illness.

As i sit here writing this post she is telling me its “BED TIME CMON SEE YOU IN THE MORNING”so so funny.

I would like to thank Paula for bringing this ray of sunshine into our home.

I  will keep you updated on the lovely lady’s progress.

George Is Improving.

George Is Improving.

Wow well, this week so far has been mega interesting with our George. He has made some massive leaps forward. He has tried different veggies and he has tried mango which he liked. He doesn’t seem too keen on apple though.

He has started to enjoy showers and he has one every morning along with the other three boys. This morning (Tuesday) I actually managed to spray him with his cage door open, his feathers are so dusty so it helps to reduce the dust and he must feel much better for it. He certainly seems to benefit from it.

He has also ventured onto Charlie and Dexters cage, only for a minute or two but he did it. Then he was sat on his perch in his cage when Dexter startled him and he jumped out of his cage onto the floor. So…I sat with him and he just crawled up me, I couldn’t believe it!! He climbed up me, sat on my shoulder for a while taking in the view and enjoying the heat of the sun on his back coming through the window. He then gave me kisses while he was sat there. Totally unbelievable it was!! Then I needed to get him down as I had to somehow get him back to his cage without scaring him, so, I got a cushion and said step on, he stepped on to the cushion and I managed to carry him back to his safe haven (his cage) and then closed the door!!!

He got a couple of treats as did the others and then he started to tuck into his food.

His confidence is growing a little bit each day and we are so suprised by the things he is doing. He still doens’t make a lot of noise like the others and he isn’t all that bothered for toys but he had a little play last week and the odd chomp on his wooden toys but that’s it. But still he is doing great and we are really proud of him.

I will update again as new things happen.

Meet Buzz Buzz Busby!!!

Meet Buzz Buzz Busby!!!

On the 14th of March I collected a cute little grey called Busby from a lovely lady called Jen.

Jen had been battling cancer for 9 years but at the time was quite well, she just worried that if she got ill again she wouldn’t make it and wanted to know Busby was safe she was so upset and didn’t know if she could hand him over but she was moving and really wanting him to be settled somewhere while all that was happening so I said I would look after him while that was going on and once she was settled if she wanted him back that was fine, so we left it at that and he might go back to her.

She rescue Busby from a pet shop where he was unhappy and he was 15 years old, not really friendly and very grumpy.

She owned him for 10 years and in them 10 years has turned him round to be the most loving happy little grey, she can lay him down in her hand on his back and tickle his belly, she use to let him sleep under her bed in one of the drawers he loved dark places and hiding!

He will dance on command and he loves shouting “Where’s My Dinner!! ….. “WHERE’S MY DINNER”!! It is so sweet he gets angrier and angrier it’s so funny.

He loves everyone, will step up to anyone too and even my children and my baby girl who is 15 months old.

He loves to sit out in the garden on a sunny day on the back of one of our garden chairs, he is Clipped Jen always clipped him as she use to spend a lot of time outside and he went everywhere with her. He has a blue cloth that is his “Ragga” and he likes to play with it and screw it up its really sweet to watch.

Here are a few photo’s of him enjoy…

Trulli Update Week 1.

Trulli has now settled in her forever home. At first she was not sure of her new cage and toys. After a change round she soon started to explore her new surroundings.

She loves being out of her cage getting lots of tickles from me and the kids. She loves all the interaction she is getting even from the dogs. she is aready shouting for the dogs.

Trulli is eating well continues to eat her pellets. But she loves bannana chips. She is fit and well, singing and chatting.

We are hoping we can start introducing trulli to my TAG Coco, They have been out together but they took no notice of each other. So the cages are to be put together and see how they get on.

Will keep you updated
Darren and Trulli
