Britney Moves To Her Forever Home.

December 13th, 2011
Britney Moves To Her Forever Home.

After being wih me for a week, Britney has moved to her forever home.

She has gone to Glynn and Karen, AGPC forum members where she will have some feathered company in the shape of Marley.

Britney seemed to bond with Karen on sight, which was lovely for them both, I could tell Karen and Glynn fell for her immediately – let’s hope Marley feels the same !!

I left them all very happy and looking forward to setting up her cage with new toys and perches.

She is one lucky girl. I will hand the blog over to Glynn and Karen who will update regularly

Joey Finds His Perfect Forever Home.

Joey Finds His Perfect Forever Home.

Well I am sad to say that Joey has now moved on from our foster house to his new forever home with a lovely lady Wendy who already has a rescue African grey and a number of other rescue birds.

He was a pleasure to have in the house while we were finding him a forever home, he loved a tickle and a fuss and playing about like the young baby he is, Joey is 1 year old on the 14th December so i am really pleased he is in his loving forever home before his birthday so he can be spoilt rotten! (Which he will be!)

I took him over to his new home on Friday and he was loving travelling as my co pilot and watching all the traffic going by.

When we got there and showed Joey his new home we opened the travel cage and he stepped straight up on to Wendy’s hand and walked up her arm put his head down for a tickle and that was it love at first sight by both!!

He had a little fly around the room and landing on his new cage and head straight down for more tickles must have been there for about 10 mins just watching so nice to see he loved Wendy his new mummy. Here are a few photos and I now hand over the blog to Wendy to tell you all about how Joey is getting on … another happy ending for another grey ..yay!

Meet Coco – AGPC’s Rehome

Meet Coco - AGPC's Rehome

3 weeks ago a trip was made to go and Pick up a 18yr old female grey named Coco, Coco is a plucker and has been for years, the owners decided it was in her interest to rehome her as they didn`t feel they have the time she deserves and felt this is unfair.

As we bundled her into the travel cage the owner got quite upset and im not ashamed to say i had tears too, they clearly love her very much.
.
She travelled very well, chirping and chattering under her breath as we drove home she seems to have settled really well and really taken to Karl and our eldest son,

She is enjoyin the shredding toys im givin her and doesnt seem too fussy in what she is given to eat, and even took to the new cage without a fuss she is full of character and always has a noise to match the situation, she loves to dance and despite bein able to fly really well she prefers to have a wander around the floor, she is such a delight and even joins in when we laugh at her.

Anyway here are couple pics

Poppy – Almost A Month

Poppy - Almost A Month

Wow I cannot believe Poppy has been with us nearly a month!! How the time flies!!

Poppy is such a little darling, and is so gentle……. Well until she tries to pull my fingers nails off the tips of my fingers!! It’s a good job I don’t have Acrylic nails!! I’ve had much worse though :P
She was very unsure of her perches for the first few days and wouldn’t step on them at all, but she soon overcame that. I think she had wooden dowel perches previously so wasn’t used to the different textured perches I had placed round her cage.

When Poppy first arrived I made the decision to put her straight onto pellets, and started off by mixing two different types of pellets together to try and establish her preference. I started off by mixing ZuPreem Natural with Harrison’s High Potency Fine. I didn’t manage to weigh her for the first few days, as I didn’t want to upset her after moving home, but knew I needed to weigh her quickly because of changing her diet. She preferred the Harrison’s, so just for some variety I also added some fruity Animalzone pellets, which she enjoys munching on.
Poppy arrived on a Saturday tea time, and I managed to weigh her the following Wednesday, she wasn’t too impressed as she doesn’t like being handled and had to be towelled, but once on the scales she was fine.
I was very surprised that Poppy weighed in at a whopping 396g because to look at her, I’d have never of guessed she was that heavy, I expected her to weigh between 300g and 350g!! She has been weighed every week and yesterday she weighed in at 392g, considering there’s a 10 percent weight drop allowance which I set her starting weight at 400g, I’m over the moon that she’s dropped very little weight.

There have been a few changes this weekend, I had to move one of Poppy perches from the lower half of the cage up to Poppy’s feeding bowls, considering this is a perch that she has been on and slept on, she has not taken this change well, and wont step on it to eat or drink at the moment, but I’m sure she’ll come round.
I also made the decision to put some Christmas decorations up, because for the past two years we have had none because of the birds, which has not been fair on my children.
I thought through what I was going to have and where, I erected the tree where it would be positioned so Poppy could see it step by step, although she was a little shaky and weary, she was happily whistling away whilst watching what I was doing. There are no lights on the tree, as it is white, with teal coloured tinsel, so shouldn’t freak her out too much, in total there are two set of lights, one on each of my big walls and two lighted ornaments, so compared to previous years, it’s quite minimal. She hasn’t eaten much yesterday and today, but I’m hoping this is just a case of her getting used to the new position of the perches and and getting used to the decorations.

Next week will also be a trauma for Poppy because she’s booked into the vets for a Psittacosis, PBFD, and a once over, which will upset her even more.
Prior to this weekend, and the upcoming vet appointment, Poppy has settled in brilliantly, and is an absolute joy to have in our family.

Hopefully Poppy’s tests results will come back clear, and then she can be introduced to the other birds, she is very similar to my Amazon, so I’m hoping they will get on.

New Rehome Meet – Britney Bird!

November 21st, 2011
New Rehome Meet - Britney Bird!

This is Britney.

I collected her from her owner who is leaving the country for a while and so is unable to look after her and didn’t just want family to pop in and feed her. He wanted her to go to a living family who could give her the attention and time she deserves.

Britney has some plucking issues which I am hopeful will improve with lots of attention and new shredding and foraging toys and a change to her diet.

She settled with me straight away and took to all family members, male and female. Within days she was eating pellets and shredding to her hearts content. She is a good talker and has some strange noises that I can’t quite make out
The search is now on for a perfect match for ‘Britney Bird’ as she calls herself, and whoever ends up with her will be very very lucky.

It’s a pleasure to be her foster mummy.
Rachel.
