Penny Doing Good!

October 10th, 2012
Penny Doing Good!

Looking at Penny this morning her feathers are really good, down her chest, back, head and legs she is looking good!

Now if we could just get her to stop nipping her feathers from her bum and her wings we’ll have cracked it!

I’m not sure that is even manageable to be honest and it really doesn’t matter to me at all, if she wants to nip her feathers then that’s what she will do. We’ve noticed that she has started to play a little bit with her toys, foraging for food etc from an empty egg carton inside a cornflake box, that’s great because hopefully it will distract her a little bit from nipping. Every night around 7.00p.m. she has a good old pull at her wing feathers and screams a bit, that is the time that we cover them up for the night, we’ve tried covering later/earlier it makes no difference, 7.00p.m. her little alarm goes off and she has a quick pull of her wing feathers.

Since moving her to the window, we no longer have feathers that are pulled out so much that they bleed, so that’s good. She continues to dislike me and to love Darryl, so I can respect that.

Archie Has An Aviary

Archie Has An Aviary

I have been busy selling things so I could raise enough cash to buy Archie an aviary. Its only a small one but more than big enough for him. I took ages cleaning apple branches and making ropes to attach all around and the little monkey prefers just to hang on the mesh. He becomes more vocal outside as he is quite a quiet bird really. He is rubbish at stepping up though once he is in and does not want to come in at the end of the day.

His vocabulary remains limited but consistant. He did make me laugh the other day when my boyfriend walked in and Archie said…..’hello fat boy’ hahaha. His absolute favourite is blowing raspberries at everyone and anything people say to him….

Penny Update

Penny Update

Well we have kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that Penny is a plucker and as long as she is warm, well fed and happy then that’s all part of her.

Penny and my other grey Charlie, don’t get on at all, in fact if Charlie lands on her cage then he will be lucky to escape without a bite or two on his toes, he’s learned to move very fast off the top of her cage.

The other day though, Charlie let himself out of his cage and kindly opened the food bowl door so that Penny could come out as well!

She had more sense and stayed in her cage. All in all, she is doing well, still hates me but she has the best of friends with Darryl.

Miss Hollie!

Miss Hollie!

We travelled to Julie and Stevies on 30th June to meet our new african grey Hollie, the first thing we noticed was her amazing colour, then her eyes she is a real beauty,

Hollie took to Russell straight away but she was wary of me. Julie and Stevie are really nice and made us feel very welcome. After a 3hour drive back it took about 20 mins for Hollie to go into her new cage fitted out with brand new toys etc.

She ate her pellets so we were happy. This is her 4th day and she has made her self at home, not afraid of mad Thabo even been into his cage.

Kato just watches as usual. Today she came out of the cage onto settee for me to scratch her so she seems to like me too YEAH! She doesn’t speak but makes lovely soft noises which melts our hearts, she can wolf whistle which she does if you leave the room, we found her bedtime is around 9.30 and she soon settles when we cover her.

Hollie is a girlie girl so petite and soft she is a loved member of our flock
