Mr Kato Update

May 16th, 2012
Mr Kato Update

Kato has been with us for 1 month now, he has a really good appetite and would eat everything in sight if I would let him.

He only steps up if he has chosen to come out of the cage so I take the opportunity to give him a soak in the shower.

He lets me know when it’s bedtime and wants to be covered, he also lets me know when he has had enough of his supper (veggies) and wants his pellets back.

It’s a slow drive up the hill but I know we will reach the top soon. I love him to bits and am so happy we have him with us.

Trulli Update – May 2012

Trulli Update - May 2012

Trulli has well and turly settled in in our family. We thought Trulli was unwell just over a week ago so we took Trulli to an out of hours vet as she was heavy breathing we where so worried.

The vet comfirmed that Trulli has bonded to me, she is getting excited when i come in from work!

I also took her to a avian vet at the weekend he checked her over and said she was fine.

Trulli loves to eat. She gets so excited in the morning waiting for her palm oil on toast. She starts shouting come on, come on. Trulli hungry.

She has started to step up on my kids. But will have nip at them if she gets the chance. She is a big softy with me I can do anything with her.

She gets out of her cage all the time when we are in. She has been naughty aswell she has chewed the back of our brand new dinning room chair. We don’t mind that is what get from these loveable birds.

We have had twice as much back from her!

Buster Update May 2012.

Buster Update May 2012.

Buster has been with us for a while now and he is doing really well, his scabby bit has dried up on a few occasions but then he will have a pick at it and make it look red and sore, he had a pick at it a few days ago and it did bleed but nothing like it has done before.

He is one fussy bird! he will not eat his fruit unless it’s grapes, he will not eat veggie mash or pellets or warm animalzone cereal, he is a very stubborn boy, I did catch him while I was out of the room having a pick at the cereal so that is good I made out I didn’t see it ;)

He has had a piece of orange and we are putting fruit onto a kebob stick to see if he will eat more.

He is chatting a little bit more loves being out of his cage and always say’s ‘NIGHT NIGHT’ in a really deep scary voice!

A lady who fosters came and met him the other day and he took a instant liking to her she could tickle him and everything took me a few days! little flirt!

Anyway he is a couple of photos of him.

Charlie Boy Has Found a Forever Home

Charlie Boy Has Found a Forever Home

Like the title says, Charlie Boy has found a forever home.

He’s staying with us and we are very happy to have him, that now means we have four wonderful birdies that we love very much.

Charlie Boy has a huge vocabulary, and loves to sing, chat, whistle etc. It’s never dull listening to him..lol
Charlie boy has been very hard work, screams like he’s being murdered if you put your hand in his cage and he lunges and attacks you, he strips the skin off your hands with his very painful bites and he hates to come out of his cage etc.

So working with him has been a long and slow process and most of the time very painful, he’s made me cry on many of occasions

But I’ve never given up on him, I’ve slowly gained his trust to the point of being able to give him tickles through the cage bars, this as you can imagine has taken lots of patience with him, everything has to be done slowly.

Although he was in a new cage, it was thought that maybe another new cage would help, so Stevie and I decided to buy him a new cage, it has a landing platform and is bigger than the other one we were using.

Charlie boy has now very slowly started to come out and stand on the landing platform, that in it’s self is a huge step for him, he also is happy to let Rosie in his cage and have a play, he’s getting on well with Rosie and yesterday Frodo went over to Charlie boy and all went well.

He’s still very scared and nervous but he’s trying hard

But yesterday Charlie boy and I made HUGE progress, I did as I usually do, keep my hand near him, talk to him softly, no sudden movements etc, but this time instead of doing it inside the door of his cage, I did it on the landing platform and he let me give him lots and lots of head tickles, he gave me playful bites/nibbles and he put his foot on my hand twice, this is something he’s never done, it was great.

We’ve done the same thing again today, everything slow, etc and he’s let me give him lots of tickles again and he put his foot on my hand for longer.

As you can see lots of patience has worked and I’m hoping to continue to build on this, next step for him will be “step up” although I don’t think he’s ready for that just yet but I’m sure it will be soon if he keeps letting me do this with him.

He’s also now starting to let Stevie give him beak rubs, although he still will bite Stevie if gives him more than a few rubs, but Stevie is working with him on that.

I feel so proud of him as he’s come such a long way

It was definitely worth spending the money on a new cage for him and this time my tears were for joy, he’s a wonderful birdie.

Rosie Update

Rosie Update

Rosie has been with us now for sometime, she’s a happy birdie, but still plucks, she is due to go to the vets for her check up and full bloods.

Rosie gets on very well with all of us here and is becoming friendly to our new addition, Charlie Boy who is also a rescue/re home birdie.

Rosie loves her out of cage time and explores and plays with all the out of cage toys, she is also now very good at flying and enjoys flying from room to room.

Since her last blog she’s had a new bigger cage/home and she’s settled in very well with no problems, she takes to new toys all the time with no problems too.

She’s such a joy and calls herself “princess” as that’s what we say to her..lol

She’s also a chatter box and has an extensive vocabulary of words, whistles, sounds etc
I’ll update her blog again once we’ve been to the vets and got her results.

Julie
